Any suggestions for a weekend getaway, within say 6 hours drive from Metro DC area? Mid-March timeframe.

I was considering Asheville, N.C. but wanted to know if anyone has any ideas for places/cities along the Blue Ridge Mountains I shouldn't miss.

TIA-
NelsonV

You're pretty close there to the "Tail of the Dragon". That's a worthwhile drive. Although I've heard it's getting more and more crowded. And, if you do the "tail" be careful with the spirited driving as, even when we were there, there are patrolmen in several locations along the way which tend to not understand the need for that sort of thing, if you know what I mean.

Asheville is a beautiful place. The Biltmore is a grand place that you should see. The Grove Park Inn is also a place to tour if you like Arts and Craft style decor and history. The place is full of RoyCroft furniture and woodwork. Antique furniture, and, unlike, a museum, most is still in use today.

I'd love to go back sometime and tour it all again.
