Hey guys,

Working on a 1992 Corvette for a buddy of mine. Really nice car with just 20,000 miles on it. It sat under a cover for the last 10 years. He recently took it to a car show and out of nowhere it started running really erratic. I was able to get it to throw a check engine light; CODE 43. I got the grand idea to use my moats equipment and Tunerpro to check knock counts and timing retard. Couldn't get any of my equipment to work with the car. Kept coming up with error counts. I moved on to my Snap On Red Brick (early 90's) and the scan tool could not establish communication. Seen this before... recently... I am thinking the ECM took a crap. Thoughts?????

The next issue becomes... I contacted all the local auto parts stores in my area and it doesn't look like anyone is re manufacturing these. Anybody have any ideas where I can get on if infact he needs it?

As always.... Thank you

Dan

Code 43 is the knock sensor circuit.

I will take a picture of the fsm tomorrow for you.

You can check the sensors for voltage and ohm them. Otherwise could be ecm. As far as I recall those ecms are extremely difficult to find, and there are a few places that rebuild them.

Hey Matt,

I really appreciate that. I will try and go through the proper diagnostic procedure once you post it. But I am also pretty convinced its the ECM because of the communication issues with the scan tool. I think my buddy is pretty screwed on this one...

Thanks,
Dan

This is from a 93 fsm, but should be the same since 92-93 used the same ecm.

Other things (usually fuel related) can also cause detonation/knock so make sure the code is the cause of the problem and not the symptom.
