Ok......started the day of the race. I was going to head back to the starting line and hit the green button and it went click. I took the fob off my belt and waved it around and then it fired right up. No problems after that.

Brought it home and it sat for a week. Jumped in it last Sunday and everything lit up and it went click.....and click again....and never would start even with the other fob. Checked the battery and it had like 4 volts showing. So I took the battery in and had them slow charge it and it charged up fine and held a charge.

So back to the car put it in and it fired right up and was charging 14.2.....amps....it is amps isn't it? shut car off and started it again and the starter drug before firing off. Stopped it and it started right up no drag. stopped it and the starter hardly turned over.....but it started.

My thoughts are the starter has a loose connection and would check it today. Went out this morning and everything came on and it went click.....no turnover or anything.

Shut it off and tried again and it drug but started right up......but now the alternator is not charging and the DIC is saying 11.2 volts.......which is what the battery was carrying I'm sure......

Last night we were checking to see if there was an unusual drain on the battery. Right when you shut the car off there is 2.5 to 3.5 amps that are cycling up and down as the computers are doing whatever they do. After a couple of minutes the system shuts down and it measured .008 amp drain which I think would be normal. Open and shut the door and the amps jump back up and cycle around for a couple of minutes and then go back to sleep.... kinda weird but must be normal.....

So after reading all this.....what the hell is the matter with my car!!!........ I know the Guru's can figure it out....... thanks for listening.......

I forgot to mention that I did unplug the alternator while the car was running and I seem to recall you are not supposed to do that.....or that may be on Harley's......hmmm........ There were no codes thrown when I checked that........

Is this the same battery you said went dead a few times?

Did they do a load test on the battery when you had it charged?

How did you test for draw? What was your meter set at?

You might need to see if something else is staying energized intermittently (like a relay) without your knowledge. A thermal imager is good for that.

I would have said "battery". Did they load test it?

I always worry about batteries once they have been drained completely down. Always seems to me they are never as good or reliable once that happens.

Put in new battery....the other did not do so well on the load test....got it all hooked up and.....click.....tried again....click......tried again and it took off so headed down to the place where I get stuff fixed and we put it on the rack and it looked like the plastic on the wires to the solenoid were burnt a bit. Tried to tighten the leads and things broke......so gots a new starter coming from Rock Auto...... 90 bucks......not a reman....... did I happen to mention I have headers now....?l They are really not going to make this easy......

Sounds like you tracked it down. Hope that solves the problem.

I'm wondering if the headers have anything to do with it. How well insulated is the starter? Maybe the headers running close to the starter has 'cooked' it? Let's get this figured out, as we don't want to have issues while we are in SD. I did get a room in Spearfish last night.
