1995. Corvette idles rough at a stop and seems to surge a little.
Removed spark plugs and noticed the drivers side plugs look great but the passenger side was black like it was running rich on that side. Any thoughts? Can an o2 sensor on the passenger side do this? |

Welcome aboard!!! Does the Service Engine Soon light fire on the dash board? Old O2 sensors can cause any number of rough running and even stalling conditions. How many miles on the car? How old are the O2 sensors? Another thought it the throttle position sensor. I suggest NTK, AC Delco or Denso O2 Sensors. You can get them from RockAuto.com for much less than the chains. I highly recommend getting a CD copy of the Helm Factory Service Manual from ebay. About $20.00 or so. |

With little history, I would do a major tune up...
All filters, all fluids, new plugs (I recommend NGK), new O2 Sensors... And a can of BG 44K to clean out the fuel system. How many miles? And yes, with one side rich, I would agree that a slow O2 would cause that. |

I am going to be a little blunt... and it will help in the long run...
Corvette's for the most part, are high performance vehicles of their era. I know this doesn't count for all years, but by 1995, a 300hp small block was pretty damned hot. With that said, don't cheap out, dude. Saving 10 minutes and $15 is not the way to keep these things running right. Buy two new O2s and be done... I also recommend, as stated above, a base line tune up. This way, YOU know it's good. Postponing that work can cause loss of performance, and, possibly, damage. Owning any performance car requires a little more diligence than tending to your average Toyota or Chevy... Use Rockauto (discount code over in Corvette Chat) and pick the best quality part... With the current status of the aftermarket parts biz, getting the best quality part will make the car run better, longer. And give better MPG. Rockauto.com allows you save money, but get the best part available. Many times, that part is just not available at Pep Boys, or even NAPA. I have seen people try to care for these cars on the cheap, and the end result isn't pretty... This is the manual... https://www.ebay.com/itm/1995-Chevrole ... :p9wAAOSwUuFWyJDE&vxp=mtr seems to have gone up a bit, but at $50, it's still a deal. It's in PDF form... well worth it, these are rather complex cars and if you are not careful, you can get lost very quickly. This disc will save you that. |

O2 sensors replaced rough idle gone power back..it. Seems as thought the passenger side was original equipment 22 years old.
Thank you again the forum was my dictionary On to the other issues π |

I'm going through the same issues with my "new" '95 LT1. Found a bad O2 sensor on the passenger side. Now it's running so much better! Hoping my mileage improves from 12.5 mpg to something closer to 20.

The O2 will go a long way to helping. I would also suggest replacing both O2 sensors... they are like plugs and should be replaced every 30k miles or so.
I use NTK or Denso sensors. The MPG is directly related to distance driven... if you do short hops and don't go far, the controller never gets into open loop and will run rich. Also, as you noted, the O2 will cause a rich condition. Let us know how the MPGs do. Welcome aboard!!! |
