Morning guys....chilly to start here, 29. But headed to mid 60s, so they say. #3 and family are coming from KC for the holiday, so the house will be alive for a few days.

Not much going on in the shop, by choice. I received the new LED florescent replacement bulbs for the shop. They have finally come down in price where I felt I could justify them. Supposedly, the payoff will be a little over a year. The ones I bought can be used with, or without the ballast....my plan is to remove the ballasts as they are big consumers of electricity. So that's the plan for today, change bulbs/rewire (the fixtures).

I trust everyone here has a great Wednesday.

Howdy! 29 would be balmy - it is all the way up to 19 here. Had an early meeting right out of the chute, then got to wade through a pile of e-mails that came in the meantime. These people obviously don't know that I am trying to wind down for the holiday.

Have a good day, all!

Well, after a hiccup, they are all done. 30 bulbs. I was just rolling along swapping one fixture, then testing to make sure it works. I had done some work for my electrician last week, so he told me he'd come over and help. When he got here, he asked how it was going, and I told him pretty good, but the newer fixtures had 'shunted' ends......one wire going to it and jumpered. This is what the instructions say. "So," i say, "we have to swap tombstones with the ones they sent with the bulbs." He looks at them and says, "No, we don't. We just have to put a second wire in the end that has one." "ok, that makes sense."

So he proceeds with the next one and I work on another and he moves to the next one and I say, "let's test these." So I kick the breaker on and flip the switch and POP, the breaker kicks immediately. "Well," i say "I obviously have something wired wrong." He said, "Well, it wouldn't have to be your mistake. I could have done something wrong, too" So we start tracing back and can't find anything wired wrong. I said, "I can't believe that this is happening, it was working fine before I started." (Remember, I check each one out after doing each fixture and they were working through the first three) So he starts checking the wiring and we find the source, but no switch leg...."I'm pretty sure this is the way I wired it up originally." I tell him. But there is no switch leg., by testing the continuity. So he crawls up in the attic to trace them out and sure enough, that is the way I originally wired it. So we take the switch out and off....boom we have continuity, check the switch, it is fused...OK bad switch. Get back to putting things back and flip the switch POP kick the breaker again....so he pulls one og the lights he added the wire to the tombstone and checks continuity and find the tombstones can't be wired that way, it's a dead short. He says, "Well, the instructions say you can't use the original shunted tombstones, I guess they know more about it than I do." So on those fixtures we had to swap out the tombstones and it went pretty fast after that. That little faux pas cost us an hour and a half. But after all said and done....it makes a huge difference in the shop. Much brighter and clearer light.
