Well.... I traded the F350 last week. I just couldn't stand driving it. So massive..... so rough riding unloaded. Plus I decided against buying a new trailer bigger than 24ft, which really makes needing to have a 1 ton Duper Duty nill. I love the power and towing capabilities of the Super Duty but after a year of ownership I hated the rest of the truck.

The dealer made it super easy. I paid 54k for the F350 this time last year.... they gave me 54k trade in.... which gave me over 11k to put down on a new F150. Financed the F150 for 4yrs, which is what I had left on the 350 anyways, dropped my payment by $200 a month.... insurance went down like $150 a year too.

I was amazed at the towing capabilities of the new 3.5 EcoBoost. 400hp and 500tq. I knew that was was going to be the powerplant. Of course we get a bit of snow here near DC and I like camping so 4x4 was also a requirement. Factory tow pkg was also a requirement. After the base F350 interior, I wanted nicer... not King Ranch but nicer than a base work truck.

Found a nicely optioned F150 with the STX package that fit all those. The only thing that let me down is the 3.31 gears and open rear diff.... still as equipped my truck has the 7450 GVW package and can tow up to 11,300lbs. If it would have had 3.55 or 3.73 gears... 13,800 and 14,000 tow capacity.... however the 3.31 will get better mileage unloaded and 11,300 is enough to pull what I have and plan for the future.

Also this thing moves out. Turbos spool near instant and it pulls hard all the way to 6500rpm redline. Quiet as a mouse as well. Very nice truck. Hopefully it'll be reliable and the 2ndcGen 3.5s supposedly have a ton of head room for more power..... but I bought the optional 100k warantee just in case.

Will

Nice truck there, Will. My BIL has the Ecoboost and pulls a small trailer for his construction business. It's an impressive engine. You should see what they can do once they're tuned. Even better.

For sure, I have been checking out the modifications and tuning available for these. Both the 2.7 and 3.5 EcoBoost are capable of impressive power after tuning. Boost of any kind is easy power.

I might do a few basic bolt-ons. Cat back, catch can and air filter. Nothing that's going to void the warantee. I like the Corsa exhaust.... turbos whistle big tine but I also really like how quiet stock is.

My other daily driver the CTS-V has a B&B exhaust and its loud as heck.... do I really need that on both? Do my neighbors really need that every morning regardless of which vehicle I drive to work? Hard questions, I never would have asked when I was younger... LOL

Drove it a couple hundred miles to watch a race in southern Va yesterday. Mostly all hwy 75mph with very light traffic that was stop and go in a couple of spots. Anyway 23.8mpg average for the trip. Anytime I would go 80mph, i could tell it was dropping under 23mpg.

326miles on it and happy so far. Side steps and quad fold bed cover enroute.

I'm with you, Will. Don't need the loud exhaust any more.
