After extensive datalogging, and the tuner working to tweak my engine a little, I decided to look at the underside.
Well, U Joints are solid, spicers from about 3000 miles ago. They were the proper ones everyone recommended on many forums.
Anyways, I moved the wheels back and forth while I had the car in neutral. The diff is definitely clanking.
I recorded it with the phone. hard to tell but, with hand on diff, or a screwdriver, I can here allot of metal clanking.

Not sure what would be wrong in the D44, but it was rebuilt with new gears by Ikerds before he passed in early 2000's.
Its seen its fair share of drag racing in Hawaii, but nothing since it shut down in 2005 and or since I have been back on mainland, in 2012.
Just need a recommendation of a rebuilder, or one laying around. I have 3.33 gears, used. Just looking at options.
In all honesty, 3.73 are too much for the 396LT1. Lots of rpms at 80mph..

Did you pull the rear cover and check it out?

Still not home yet. I went under and did some more checks. Its damn tight.. As soon as I turn the wheel, the pinion/driveshaft moves. When you move wheel back and forth fast you hear the clunking, as if the gears are going from front to back of teeth, if that makes sense.
The ticking I hear is rear of transmission in tail shaft of 700R4..
I will be back in a couple weeks, and if weather permits I will dig further into it. Right now, not 100% sure WTH is clunking.
I would think big cam, and car barely on idle cruising is causing it.

I would pull the drive shaft and check the diff for slop independently. I guess everyone is hanging out on F book these days...

used gears are always a gamble.

Never know the wear points.

Yep. Just got back. List of repairs, dishwasher just crapped out, and other things may take a few days.
I need a person to take care of my house when gone.. Clean, outside of home.
All I have is a cat sitter, and yard guy.
Car is not on priority right now. Within a few days I will get to it.

Do Hawaiian cats hang looser than others?
