it's spring here today - drove the Vette this morning. Making use of that new battery. volunteering at our St. jude bowling tourney Sunday cost me $200 - tried to start car, wound't. Last time I tried to take it, I got in, turned everything on, when I hit the start button it just did nothing and that was it. Figured my cable had jiggled loose so left it and went on to work in the SUV. Tried Sunday and nope, my "new" battery was already shot. At least they warrantied some of it. Hadn't had it a year, so they "depreciated" it mighty fast - of course in their advantage. Would give anything to be off today, but work beckons. Will try to take a few breaks outside. Of Course Mother Nature makes it nice when I have to work and crappy when I'm home.

Hey guys, it was a beautiful day yesterday and nice and warm today, just a tad bit breezier. Got the big cabinets installed yesterday, now looking toward the next project or two.

Went to see the holistic Dr. today. Got our meds for the next month. Headed out to the shop to spray some finish.

Yesterday I was planning on hanging out at the house because it was raining. Sue called and asked if I wanted to go to the casino. I told her I'd rather just stay home and rest. She kept up persistently saying she would drive both ways and I could rest , blah, blah, blah. So ... we went to the casino. Sue was on a hot machine and she was collecting win tickets. I hit a nice one for over $700 putting me up $500. Over the course of the next several hours I eneded up giving the $500 back to them. But Sue was another story. She was doing so well she never went to the poker table. In the end I ended up even and Sue came out 2 G's ahead. Nice. All the wins were under $1200 so no tax papers to deal with. Good rainy day fund. It all goes in to our designated gambling wallet for future use.

Sue's worker's significant other was scooped up by ICE at Walmart. They have 4 U.S. born children together and she had the 4 year old with her when they grabbed her. They gave the 4 year old to someone to give to the father, Sue's worker. He's all freaked out and was crying. He's trying to find out where she is and get her back if possible. Sue has an immigration attorney friend looking into it. ICE and law enforcement are on a rampage in Florida grabbing everyone they can.

On a side note ... There is a serious shortage of tradesman and laborers for construction jobs here, especially roofers. As the article mentioned, how many American men want to work roofing? Sheet rock workers were also mentioned. There are a lot of jobs that nobody wants in the U.S. that are filled by aliens.

my cousin in Cali said that ICE is everywhere just parked looking for folks. I'm a bit mixed on the job situation. Slavery ended a long time ago and it bothers me that some folks only see the need in immigrants for work purposes. On the other side of that, most folks won't do certain jobs for less pay than it should be. I'm not working in a hot field all day for $10 an hour, nobody should. If companies that need labor paid a fair wage for said labor and not wanted to be cheap then they'd get more workers. Then again, the cost of eggs and such would be even more. Big old mean circle of mess.

...like space aliens? I heard they work cheap but are trying to take over the world...

It is a tough deal.... I have empathy for the honest hard working ones getting sent back but where do you draw the line? What needs to happen is a streamlined system of getting work visa's or sponsorships or citizenship. All manual labor jobs are held down by Latino workers in this part of the country. Road construction, roofing, ethanol plants, packing plants..... so many employed at packing plants....

a lot here are roofers and landscapers. I appreciate the ones who come here to better themselves and have a family and contribute. I do not care for them not having to pay income tax like me, and then send all their money to another country instead of helping our own economy. But, I also don't blame them, if I had family and I was here making money and a dollar here was like a hundred there, sure I'd send some home. Like you said, where do you draw the line? I do think there should be easier, less expensive ways to be legal here.
