Well,
I pulled the trigger last week and purchased a FJC 3.0CFM Dual Stage Vacuum Pump and a 134A Manifold gauge set. My Monte has never had A/C. My brother who previously owned the vehicle had ran a can of a/c stop leak, with all that junk that comes in the can through the system. Although the Orifice tube was clogged, the rest of the system was actually in good shape; with the exception that there was not a single drop of oil in it. Yesterday I Replaced the Compressor, Receiver/Dryer, and the fixed orifice tube... all new o-rings, flused the condenser with a/c flush, and added about 10oz of oil. Today I got out there with my new toys... ran the pump on the car for 2 hours, and unloaded 3 new cars of 134A into the system. Ahhhhh..... I COLD A/C!! Finally. That compressor has been sitting on my shelf for 3 years. Of course as with all of my projects something had to go wrong. The A/C pumps Ice Cold. But it appears as though when the system is off the compressor chatters like a MOFO. Appears as though they set the air gap wrong on the clutch!!!! Either that or the plate is loose. Sounds like bolts being shaken in a tin can. My hope is that it will just wear away a little and the noise will stop.... I'm out guys.... Till the next Catastrophe! DG |
