CentralCoaster Replacement rear hatch struts... will they work with my defroster?

My hatch struts are shot. The GM parts book shows a different for left and right for cars with a defroster. But the replacements only show one part number. What gives?

Will this monroe replacement work?

http://info.rockauto.com/Monroe/901016.html

Or do I need the AC delco? Catalog says this fits 84-2004 vettes, but doesn't match the original GM p/n's for my 85.

http://info.rockauto.com/ACDelco/Detail.html?LiftSupport.jpg

The local stores don't stock em and the exact GM ones are about $75 each!

I'd try searching CF, but it appears their search function is comatose as usual.

Looking at the connector pics, and the pic of the strut itself it looks like it has the male end for the defroster plugs, tough to say tho, did you call all the local places and ask if they have them? Or any for your vette? I know walmart even carrys struts now lol

I see that, but I've seen people hinting about left and right, but never seen the actual meat and potatoes posted.

Somebody out there's replaced these (correctly)...

I don't expect autozone monkeyboy and orangutanman to know any more than their computer catalog tells em, and that I can access online.

Both MidAmerica and Corvette Central show separate p/n's.
The bottom connector can be rotated but the top connector is clipped into the hole where the ball mount goes. Both connectors are pointed towards the center of the car, if one of the connectors was pointed towards the outside, I think it could hit the weatherstrip.

My MAD catalog's a couple years old but they show the GM set (2) at $75.

Just looked at both the links, the Monroe pic is shit, doesn't tell you any thing.
The Delco is interesting, IF the pic is correct, it looks like the upper connector can be rotated from one side to the other. If this is true, it differs from the GM unit and might work.

Got an ACDelco nearby where you could look at one?

I doubt I'll bother to find out because the Delco price is a little higher than mid america.

But, since that AC Delco says that one is an exact replacement for the C5 struts as well, perhaps it's because GM wised up and had one made that fits both sides.

Yet none of the other replacement brands show interchangeability from C4 to C5.

I ordered the Monroe MaxLift supports from RockAuto.

Even though the part numbers (901764 and 901016) were different, the defroster connectors had the same orientation for both of them!

The connector was in the correct spot for the driver's side strut, but backwards for the passenger side. I contemplated sending it back, but I test fit the passenger side and it cleared the trim, and the defroster wires are long enough to connect, so I'm not going to bother with the hassle or returning it.

BTW, the ends of the OEM struts unscrewed easily, which made getting the rubber bumpers (that rest against the top when it's in the back) off pretty easy. I couldn't unscrew the top of the new lift supports, so I just stretched the rubber bumpers over the defroster connector. It seemed to work well (and the bumpers fit snug).
