Just had the Vette tires filled with Nitrogen at the local Chevrolet dealer. Heard people talking about it and all the pluses sounded good. After the fill, the Vette seemed to ride smoother...maybe just positive thinking?

It costs $59. Seems a lot, but here's what you get:

Besides the Nitrogen filled tires, free roadside assistance for 1 year and free flat repairs for 1 year. Free refills for the life of the tires.

The molecules are bigger in Nitrogen so less prone to leak. Constant pressure all the time no matter the weather, so supposedly better mileage. Reduces running tire temperature so longer life of the tire.

Does it do all that? Time will tell.

Oval track asphalt racers have been using it for years. Supposedly, tire pressures have almost no differences throughout the heat cycle.

Formula One has also been using it for years as well. I always used it in both my Corvettes. I never had to put any extra in a tire ever on the 87 (except when i had a nail in one) Been using it since about 2 days after getting my 94 and when i last had them checked a couple months ago, one was at 35psi, and the other was at 34psi. (the other 2 tires were almost bald and getting replaced, so were not checked) They were filled to 35psi. Another advantage is Nitrogen doesnt absorb moisture, and moisture inside the tires would obviously not be a good thing to have. Its very easy to come by in Australia, and i think last fill was $5 or $6 AUD per tire. (it was far more than that when it first became a big thing here 5 years ago)
