Decided to start a new thread since the other one took an unwanted turn.

Got the engine in and fired-up yesterday. I didn't get it started until late Sunday... I spent too much time on Saturday helping another friend with his car.

Engine started right-up. However, I had to shut it down before tuning. The new Edelbrock SWP did not allow the water pump pulley to line-up with the stock crank pulley. The Edelbrock pump pushed the water pump pulley out too far. I'ved used two different $30 Airtex waterpumps on the car, on different engines, and neither had an alignment problem. The Edelbrock water pump was around $140 at the Service Center. I was told it was a direct replacement pump. Oh well, you get what you pay for.

Since the motor mount on C1s run between the block and water pump, changing water pumps always makes for a good time.

At this point, I'm debating about whether I should take a BFH and try to drive the pulley in 1/8", or simply swap the Airtex pump from the 327, and take the BFH to the Edelbrock pump once it's off the car... decisions, decisions.

Glad you got it in.

As far as the BFH, I think you know the answer to that. I wouldn't do it with the pump on the car, but that's me.

Where are those pics I wanted?

Matthew, I'll get some pics up tonight or tomorrow. I need to get them uploaded so I can link them. My first priority will be addressing the pulley alignment issue, so I can set my timing, re-lash the valves, adjust the carb, and test drive the car. I want to take it out and start putting miles on it. The engine is fresh, and I plan to drive it to Famoso (Bakersfield - 125 miles each way) on Saturday, and I do not want any surprises...

That said, don't worry, the pics will come...

After all that, I feel bad for you. Not the first guy unfortunately to buy an Eddy pump and discover ot didnt line up, that motor mount you have is no fun I bet.
Couldnt get over there this weekend, was trying to finish up some parts and get them back home to theri owners to take the next thing on.

Ron,

Part of the reason for a new water pump, was so I could leave the 327 in tact, without scavenging parts. Too bad I cheaped out and got the premium Edelbrock water pump. Had I spent the money for a good pump in the first place, I wouldn't be doing it over. Oh well, you get what you pay for.

That said, I have a funny feeling the el cheapo Airtex water pump I'm going to pick-up tonight is going to align the pulleys just fine...

Since I was unable to get my hands on another water pump tonight, here are the pics.

All the pics are available here.

Should be lined-up on the back groove...

Well, I swapped to a different upper pulley, and moved the alt forward. That, and judicious use of washers (spacers) has everything aligned with the Edelbrock pump.

I set the timing, but haven't gotten to the mixture screws yet. I got it idling around 725-750 RPM. I'll see where it ends up once I set the mixture screws. The idle has a slight lope, sounds smoother than the solid F/T cam. Curious to see whether or not it will make more vacuum.

Aside from that, I still need to bolt the fan on. Then a quick road test, and finally re-lashing the valves. I hope to be able to take it for a spin tomorrow.
