Pool is closed, no more buy-ins. Superbowl winner gets double points. Winner take-all.

I attached an excel file with the bracket and picks so you can calculate the scores yourself, or play with different outcomes.

Final points (add double points for Steelers for superbowl win):

Hey, what do you guys think about throwing in some bonus points for picking top players each week, or superbowl mvp, stuff like that?

Too complicated?

As a separate pool, perhaps, but not as part of this one.

OK, I'm a little slow.

I haven't played this kind of pool before. Someone explain this a little bit better. I'm in... just need to know the strategy here.

There are 12 teams in the playoffs.

You assign numbers 1 through 12 to the teams.

Each time a team wins, you get that many points.

Total points wins.

So... if you think that Denver can go all the way, you probably want to give em 12 points. If you think the Bucs will lose their first game, give em 1 point.

The trick, is the top 2 teams in each conference have a first round bye.... so this means if you give 11 points to your precious Giants, you still get zero point from them in the first round.

My first post shows a picksheet for a previous year.

Now I'm attaching a results sheet from that season. You can see the small grey number is what each player picked for each team. Wins for each team are tallied on the left, and the resulting points calculated and totaled. The tiebreaker I used was total points in the superbowl.

The best strategy I can offer is you want your high point teams to go as far as possible. So don't put your 12 point team against your 11 point team in the first round, because one will lose. Also try and avoid loading all your points on the top seeded teams, it rarely works because you don't get those points on the bye week and end up starting in a hole. You can still win this way if all the favorites win, but you're screwed if they don't.

Most people fill in the bracket a few different ways on how they think it will turn out and then assign points accordingly.

And of course, the 2nd round matchups change depending on which teams win the first round.

Check on the points you've got on a team vs. other players and that'll tell you which teams you need.

For you, Arizona and Philly are important, but if the Steelers win too many, you'll be hurting.

Epic failure by Jake Delhomme. 6 turnovers by one guy? That has to be some sort of playoff record.

Man, what a game! Well, for Arizona. I had a gut feeling about them, wish I had picked them as an 8 or 10. I listened to too many sportswriters and tempered my enthusiasm.

So we're back to Pittsburgh...here's to hoping they fail.

Especially with a veteran quarterback. I guess nobody gave them a chance without a running game. They do have some good backs, they just never need to use em.

The younger quarterbacks haven't done much.

Bow chicka bow-wow... go Steelers! Had Baltimore won, Jon would've clinched it.

My arm is sore from patting myself on the back. Actually I didn't even watch the game.

If it isn't obvious by now, here's where sit:

Steelers win = I win
Cards win = Spectator wins
Exciting nail-biting game with good commercials = everybody wins.

Sorry to ruin the fun. Basically none of us had good picks. I entered another pool with these same picks and finished close to last. Everyone has a shot to win it back in the upcoming fantasy nascar season(s).

Go cards!

Who'd have ever thought that I (or anyone not in Arizona) would be saying that?

Plus a victory would seal #13's entry into the hall of fame. I'd like to see the old guy make it. He may be the only NFL player older than me.

In these pools the winner typically ends up with over 100 points, and that's without the bonus superbowl points I added!

So that should give you an idea how far off we are. I knew the Titans would suck, but the rest of this is a surprise to me.

Yeah. Totally rigged. Lame.

I think next time I'll have to put a 1,2,3rd place. These tend to get decided early and eliminat most of the players. The other pool I was in was decided before the conference championship games even started.
