What clutch fluid do you use?

I'm ready to go gungho on changing the fluids on my vette.

I typically run DOT3 brake fluid in the ZF clutch system, but some have said the GM formulation is preferable, although I'm not sure why. I typically avoid the dealership if at all possible.

Is there a place to order this? Or is there something else out there you'd recommend?

Yea, I'd like to hear why GM is better from a reliable source. I don't buy it.

I wonder if it's another CF myth. Call Mythbusters.

I think it started in the owners manual... the ZF "required" the special fluid to keep the clutch from squeeking.

I donno... I always used Valvoline Synpower (no longer available, just Valvoline Synthetic Brake Fluid) with zero problems.

Bill at Zf Doc recommends the GM fluid, reason is it spots the master from squeaking.

I use the GM stuff. However, I used DOT 3 brake fluid for 20,000 miles with no problems, I just switched to the GM stuff after doing the hydraulics a few years ago based on what I had read on zfdoc.com.

I can't see it making much difference, but I trust Bill so I went with his recommendation.

I can't see how one "hydraulic Fluid" would make a difference from any other......Hydraulic systems are Hydraulic systems whether they are for the brake or the clutch....

But that is all just my opinion, I have no real knowledge on the subject.

But think about it for a moment, what if you were a manufacturer of Hydraulic Fluid....and you made some sub par recipe and sent it out on the market. Later, cars start wrecking due to the faulty fluids and brake systems failing...You might as well sign your own business death warrant.

I'd imagine the Hydraulic Fluid manufacturers have more than one $10 per hour Q/A checking the mixtures prior to release.

Again, My opinion.

I know what you mean, John. I am not far behind you on the subject.

I think it was a snow job by GM to make us buy their fluid and only their fluid. They were playing to the fanatics... who have to use nothing by factory for their precious Corvette.

I have NEVER used the GM fluid for my clutch and it's fine. Sure, it has a small leak, but whose hydraulics don't in reference to ZF clutches... No squeaks... nothing... just fine. And I don't have to pay a premium at my local rip off Chevy dealer who more than likely doesn't know the shit exists.

Yea, I wonder what the antisqueek compound is.

I also wonder why GM M/C's would squeek when no others do.

I have talked to Bill Boudreau and he said the Valvoline synthetic brake fluid is fine. Thats what I use. Hell, the GM slaves are junk. If the backward seal doesn't fail, the fluid leaks thru the seam of slave bell housing. Why is GM worried about what fluid goes in their slave ? Ahh maybe with their fluid it will last a couple of months longer. Yeah right..

I run the motul 600 for the clutch fluid. I have it on hand for the brake system anyways.

Remember to flush that crap once a year. Same with your brake fluid, unless you are tracking.
