WE HAVE VICTORY!!!!!

I got that damned seal installed! I took a lock ring compressor shaft thingy, turned it down a touch and the seal fit perfectly.

Slid it over the WP shaft and tapped away! It's all in perfect looking and stuff!!!

I will post some pics of my modified tool tonight.

Pics of the tool!

A couple of observations regarding that seal:

The seal itself, the rubber is very hard. It doesn't flex easily - as in getting on the tool - and seems to hold its shape for quite a while. I suspect that once it sets around the shaft, it ain't going no where, yo.

The tool makes install real easy. It lined up, the socket just tapped it home. So very easy.

Later optis, not sure of the early ones, had an o-ring inside the camshaft.

Make sure you dig that one out.

I thought mine came out with the opti shaft, it didn't, which is how I managed to install opti wrong, clocking was off.

Be VERY careful when you put this all back together. LT1's must have some oil leak somewhere or they explode. If you fix all the leaks your car won't know what to do and panic will ensue...

What are you LTCC guys doing with the rotor inside the opti? You have to have something to hold the disc to the bearing plate. I machined up some spacers that were the same thickness as the rotor base so I could use the same screws. Is that the same thing you guys did?

I use the DELTEQ, but what I did was cut the rotor down to just a round disc, then I loctited the screws and installed it.
Too put the WP seal on I used a cut-off sharpie. SLid right on too. No leakys so far.

Found a bug in the Helm Service Manual.

There are three reinforcement bars for the left side for the AC and alternator.

These brackets mount to the exhaust manifold. According to the book, the manifold has 2 studs, at bolts 3&4. Well... two brackets come off the AC compressor go to #3 bolt.

The other one is nearly vertical and goes to bolt #2! This one connects to the alternator.

I got it running last night. Tonight, I will be fine tuning things... I have a miss... more than likely caused by a bad plug wire or ground or something of the like.

I got rid of the misses and it ran pretty darn good!

It is all back together... the only thing now was me being an idiot... I left the hood open... and it killed the damned battery. So it's charging. I should be back in action tomorrow night.

Oh well... I was checking under the car just now... there is a stain of oil. I have a leak.

I just don't know from where. I will check tonight when I can get under there. It may require me to start the engine and watch, but I might be able to find it.

The location, meaning, where the stain starts, is rather odd... I just don't know yet.

Crap.

Whew. All is right with the world...

Check your valve covers. Mine are extremely sensitive, if they're not PERFECTLY aligned and nestled tightly on the head they leak in the back.

Hopefully it's that simple.

That's what I did, I machined a little aluminum spacer so the screws weren't too long and installed it.

So far so good.

It was the compression fitting on the pump itself.

Whenever I do the rack, I will replace the pump and all hoses and the cooler. The poor cooler has been beaten to death by misplaced floor jacks.

But... it is running and seems to run just fine! The trans shifts just fine and the engine sounds great!

It's taken a long time, but it seems like it was all worth it!!!
