Hey All,
Its been a while since I was on last. Big news was that back in March of this year, I blew my LS3. My Callaway Honker air intake took in a gulp of water while I idled through an 8" deep puddle. Wiped out #8. The connecting rod was bent in every direction. My insurance company went to the shop I had it towed to and approved a new long block motor on the spot. Well, the shop I had it at was not a GM dealership, rather a high performance shop. The owner and I decided to do some work while it was apart. My insurance company didn't care what we did with the money, as long as the car was running after the repairs. Well, the heads were good, so we decided to replace the short block only. In went a 418 Stroker! :D I also had a large street cam installed, long tube headers, line loc (for the DRs) and a 3600 stall converter. On the dyno, the car was shutting it down, due to going too fast on it. The 3rd gear pull showed 467 rwhp. The 4th gear pull, they could only get up to 5000 rpms before the car was at 140mph and shut down the dyno. At 5000 rpms it was showing 477 rwhp and climbing. The shop is figuring somewhere just North of 500 rwhp...and it is streetable...for the most part. The car doesn't like under 50 mph in 5th or 6th gear...have to keep it in 4th to keep the bucking down. I have had it out to the track for a couple of passes and the shop is still doing adjustments to it. Best pass in the quarter has been 11.006 @ a little over 120mph. The two things that are hurting me right now are my DRs (305/35/18's...little too big, but I picked them up for a steal) and my gear ratio (2.73's...Z51 option). I drive 40 miles each way to work, so I doubt I will go with gears (mileage has dropped 3 mpg avg since doing the motor...hard to keep out of it), but am looking at getting 17" DRs. Shop thinks that will put me into the 10's without a problem. The 11 second run was with extreme heat and humidity (South Florida in May, right after a small rain shower). With cooler weather, even with the large DRs, 10's should be a problem.
Anyway, just wanted to fill you all in on what has been going on with my Vette. For those in South Florida, the next Corvette Challenge at PBIR (MOROSO) is July 25th. I think the gates open at 3pm and the Challenge starts around 4:30pm or so. Hope to see some of you out there.

damn. That's a great end to a potentially sad story. Sounds like an absolute monster!!!

You don't mention it, but are you running cats? I am concerned because Gov Cris has threatened to initiate smog tests on newer cars. I don't want you caught pants down, so to speak.

That's a great ending to a bad story. My Step Dad got a new truck after driving his through a flooded road...same result, blown engine after gulping up water.

I have to wonder though, why the hell do you people keep driving through obviously deep water? LOL. Corvettes are NOT amphibious.

Yes, I have the hi-flow cats. My 86 Monte Carlo SS is another story.

Highway MPG is a little lower than 27mpg. At 90mph, my instant mpg reads 24mpg. Its hard to go slow in this thing now.

The puddle didn't look very deep...I thought it was about 4" and was coasting through the puddle when it drank it up.

Well, I here are some picts of the car, but you can't see anything different as far as the engine goes...

Great story. Glad you checked in. July 25th at Morosso? Must feel like 120* on the track (outside the car). I can feel my soggy t-shirt just thinking about it. I'm glad you posted about the puddle incident. My 91 has twin intercoolers with intakes about 8 " off the ground. I never really thought about them sucking water till you mentioned it. Come back and visit.
