Happens I have an ABS light on solid in my 86 and it's on my list of things to work on this winter. I was doing some work on the car yesterday and figured out it looks to be either the Pump Motor Relay or Solenoid Relay, tapped them both and next time I started the car the light went out. Unfortunately it only worked for a couple of cycles but at least it's a starting point.

Here's the interesting thing, apparently the same parts were used in Porsche, Mercedes and BMW's in that time frame. Even though it's impossible to find those listed for C4's, you can find them either new or used listed for those cars if you look for the parts by the number stamped on them. I found the Pump Motor Relay listed for Mercedes and the Solenoid Relay listed for Porsche.

Just passing the info along in case someone else is looking for them. Hope it helps.

Good info, thanks. Did you happen to record those parts numbers that cross reference?

I was just going against the Bosch numbers on them I wrote down from mine:
Module Relay: 0332512006 - Looks like there's another possible but would have to do a little trimming on it.
Pump Motor Relay: 0332002171
Solenoid Relay: 0332205003

I did a search on the numbers off the various units and they came up for Mercedes Benz, Porsche 911, BMW & Volvo in various 'for sale' ads, most of them having pictures showing the same units including the Bosch part numbers. Most did not always list a specific vehicle model other than the Porsche from my initial looking.

I seriously suspect the ABS pump in those corresponding vehicles are probably the same also but haven't found anything on that yet (if the parts are the same, I suspect the pump portion is the same also but that's speculation). The other thing is the wheel sensors, I'm wondering if the other manufacturers used the same ABS Sensors that were used on the Corvette? They're unavailable unless you luck out and find some used for the C4's.

Funniest thing I found though was a relay listed for a C4 typically was $40-50 where the same used relay from a Mercedes was listed for under $20 (found more than 1 at that price).

Actually I makes sense, I think Bosch was the only company making ABS systems back in that timeframe.

Update: Went back and started looking up some of the models
Module Relay 0332002171: BMW E30 ABS Anti Lock Brake Pump Relay 318is 318ic 325i 325is 325ic 325ix
Mercedes W126 W123 W107 W124 W201 relay 0332002171
0 332 002 171 | PORSCHE / AUDI / VW OEM ABS PUMP RELAY
Solenoid Relay 0332205003; BMW E30 Mercedes Corvette ABS Pump Breaking System Relay Bosch 0332205003
NEW Bosch Relay (ABS) 0332205003 BMW 34511154919
ABS SYSTEM RELAIS VOLVO 740 - 760 - 780 - 940 - 960 / BOSCH 0332205003

Possible alternative for 0332512006: 0332512007. That one has a skirt that would have to be trimmed, but first look appears it may be the same relay in a different housing.

I did find an ABS sensor cable picture the other day that sure looked like it might work on the Vette. It has a wider mount with 2 holes that looked pretty close to mine. Thing is I can't find it again so I'm not sure what it was from, though the wiring connector looked totally comparable.

Right now I've bought one of the relays and have a bid on the other one. When they come in (assuming I get the 2d one), I'll let you know how they work out.

That is great research!!!!

The Bosch system is super reliable, which helps a lot.

I recall that those wheel sensor wires are impossible to find and the connectors become brittle with age/heat/elements. A guy on CF years ago bought a weatherpack crimp tool and connectors and converted them.

Here I think is a new copy of that part from Autozone:

Well the Porcedes fix (don't you like that name, made it up) appears to have worked.

Looks like it was the Bosch Solenoid Relay 0332205003 (the silver one). ABS Light is now out and seems like all is normal though I haven't tried forcing the abs to handle a braking situation yet.

I did first the Pump Motor Relay - no difference. Then the Solenoid Relay and the light started working normally.

Easy to do: 4 Philips screws to remove the speaker cover (I do have a convertible), pull the carpet up and 7mm nutdriver to remove the screws around the perimeter of the speaker panel and lift the panel. T15 torx screw holds the retainer on the 2 relays on the pump. Pull the old relays, put in the new and put it back together.

No pictures as there's no visible changes to the car, what you start with is what you end with.

Hope that helps.

PS if you need the parts, look for them by the Bosch number on the relays, that's how I found mine. They were used in a number of different cars in the era and the Mercedes one was $19 and the Porsche was $7.75 plus shipping. I can live with that.

Amen to that. I was a driver at a Spina Bifida Picnic over the weekend and had the chance to start and drive the Vette several times on Sunday, worked every time just fine.

I have decided though while I know what it was and there are some other ones still available I'm planning on picking up another one of the Solenoid Relays and put it on the shelf 'just in case'. I've been slowly collecting some of those 'hard to find' parts and this one definitely could become one of those type items. May never have a need for it but if I do I'll be one step closer than I was this time (having one on the shelf that is).

I'm always looking for parts etc and found an interesting site. Check out; http://www.wellsve.com/parts/index.ph ... Y=006421254&PART_NO=20623 and http://www.wellsve.com/parts/index.php

Apparently they make some replacement parts for early C4's at a minimum. Worth checking out if you need some parts.
