COOLER BUT INCREDIBLY HUMID IN THE NATIONS THIS MORNING. THE CHEROKEES DO NOT LOOK FORWARD TO THIS AFTERNOON.

DARLING WIFE AND I PARKED THE TOMATO IN THE PARKING LOT OF AN ABANDONED GROCERY STORE TO WATCH THE FT GIBSON MUNICIPAL FIREWORKS LAST NIGHT; CONVERTIBLES ARE THE WAY TO GO FOR FIREWORKS WATCHING, EVEN BETTER THAN LAWN CHAIRS IN THE BACK OF A PICKUP :-)

I SHOULD MOW THE REST OF THE OBSTACLE COURSE TODAY; CAN'T WORK UP A GREAT DEAL OF ENTHUSIASM FOR THAT. THE TRIMMING YESTERDAY CAUSED LESS RESIDUALS THAN I EXPECTED BECAUSE I PILLED UP FIRST. ASPIRIN IS A STEALTH WONDER DRUG. MY TRIMMER IS A POLE JOB AND THE WEIGHT AND VIBRATION WHILE HOLDING THAT THING OVERHEAD REALLY GETS MY ARTHRITIS FIRED UP.

It was noted that our state bird population far exceeds that of previous years so top-down firework watching was not appropriate for us this year. I really didn't want to fool with shooting any, so we opted for the truck in the parking lot routine this year. Parked at a church not far from the house and the neighborhood didn't disappoint. Somebody must've spent their vacation money. We headed back to the house and someone else had what looked like commercial quality ones in the local park down from the house. We sat for that then went on home, and I heard stuff going on all night. More big bucks going up in the air as they sounded like loud ones.
We have a "severe heat advisory" in effect for today, storms tomorrow then Saturday is projected to be the "nicest day in weeks". I can't wait.

Just hot out here... Humid? Not so much... but it is supposed to be 98 here tomorrow, and when it gets that hot along the coast, it is stupid hot inland... hm... lemme check.

<checking weather for hell>

In Riverside, CA, the high tomorrow is 113...

For Palm Springs, CA, 116...

And down in Marietta, CA, where my nephew lives, 113....

Even here in San Pedro, it is expected to hit 98!!! That just doesn't happen around here.

California, specifically SoCal, gets this thing called the Marine Layer... technically, an inversion layer. This is because the Pacific is still rather chilly down here. It doesn't get warm until San Diego... here, it is still 65F. We are not talking the Caribbean here! The 85F bathwater in FL just isn't the thing.

Thanks to that inversion layer, we get cooler air along the coast. Normally, when you hear of 120F in Palm Springs, it is under 80F here. In LA City proper, which is about 15 miles inland, they can easily see 95F and we are, again, under 80F.

Strange... and then there are micro-climates even more micro. We live up the hill in San Pedro...

If you look at the attached map, I laid out a few reference points...

The red arrow is about where we live, in an area of San Pedro called Holy Trinity. It is a very nice neighbourhood with nice streets, neat houses and nice, hard working people. In general, it is a quiet and safe area. In the 7 years since we bought here, no thefts or break-ins, thankfully.

The purple star is where we used to live in Torrance. Rented there.

The red star is where I work.

The blue star is Long Beach, where the IMSA series races in April.

Finally, the green arrow, which is where my friends car wash, Jerzy Boyz is located. The car wash is in a canyon, about 80 to 100' below us. And this is important.

One day, I left the house near the purple arrow... and drove to said car wash... and it was 75 in Torrance, got to the car wash and it was a boiling 95!!!

During a heat wave, it was 10-15 warmer down by the car wash vs the temps even up at our house, a mile away.

A benefit of not having a fifth on the fourth is you don't have to plead the fifth on the fifth. Brought the Yorkies to the groomer. They look so pretty. Went to Jiffy Lube with a $20 coupon and got my 8 quarts of synthetic 0-20 oil change and filter. Cost me twice of what it would have cost me to do it myself but I'M happy. Was up at 04:30 this A.M. when the alarm went off at the nursery. Apparently there was some interest in a burrito bag that was left in the trash can. Our response time is improving. From notification to the gate takes about 10 minutes. 30 minutes faster than if we called the cops. Each time we get an alarm call we treat it like a drill and with repetition comes improvement. I pity the fool that triggers a real alarm there. I'm thinking of putting two mock grave markers outside the front gate. One that says Trespasser and one that says Burglar.

Hidey-ho! Tough day, went and played some crappy golf, but the weather was top-notch. So there are no excuses. Now we're gonna head over to a friend's for some 4th of July left-overs and a swim.
