Your starter should fit. The early vs late ministarters were clocked differently. I started with a late mini starter on my 85 conversion but switched to an early mini starter because the wire terminals reached my stock battery cable better.

One also hangs down lower than the other, I can't recall which , but that could present an issue if you have long tubes too close to the wiring harness or otherwise heating up the starter too much.

I have a pic but its on my home pc showing them side by side that would be helpful to have on here.
