Print in friendly format Send this term to a friend Offset

Definition:
The distance from the wheel mounting flange to the imaginary centerline of the wheel. Wheels with negative offset will protrude outwards more, while those with positive offset will tend to tuck in.

Many older vehicles use close to zero offset, while modern vehicles use positive offsets to provide more room for brakes and suspension, and lessen the load on wheel bearing for cars with independent suspension.

Offset is usually measured in millimeters.
