Wow, mine did. It was similar symptoms to what the OP is saying. Then all it once it must have ruptured the diaphragm and loaded the cylinders with gas. Car shut off, then actually hydro-locked because so much gas was in the cylinders (came through the vac line and into the intake). I pulled the vac line and it squirted one big shot of fuel right on the header. Vette left me sitting making it a bad night, but I know how lucky I was not to be toast.
