Tuesday Chat 10.13.15

Good Morning CGs!

Back to work for anyone who had off yesterday?

Yesterday I was able to get the socket I needed from a friend who has a giant toolbox full of leftover crap (ie, not one set in the bunch, but everything imaginable). It is semi organized and I was able to find a USA Craftsman deep 12 pt in under 30 seconds. Not bad. So I stole that (with permission, of course).

After helping the kids carve pumpkins, I had a few minutes to work in the garage. Had already gotten out 5 pistons with no signs of damage to the block (especially the suspected bad ones). Pulled the #3 driver's side piston and found this:

Broken ring land about 3-4 inches across. Most was still in the groove, but broken. Didn't find some of it. Luckily it didn't damage the cylinder wall or combustion chamber. I don't know what caused it. I'm glad that I was vindicated knowing something was wrong and that I didn't do all the work for nothing...but still not happy. Time for a rebuild.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew
