FOR SALE 1972 Corvette Coupe

Subject: FOR SALE 1972 Corvette Coupe
by bogus on 2014/8/31 17:50:00

I am selling this for a friend.

Next Saturday, it arrives in my yard for detailing and recommissioning.

Specs:

1972 War Bonnet Yellow Coupe

Base 350, Automatic, PS, PB, A/C, PW, AM/FM

I have heard the car run, and it is sweet...

Backstory:

Car was purchased new in 1972 as a left over, IIRC. The buyer, my friends father, wanted a new Vette, but when he saw the 73's didn't have a chrome front bumper, he picked up the 72 leftover that DID. This car has had single family ownership ever since. The buyer died 5 years ago, willing it to his daughter and son-in-law.

This is not the type of car they prefer, too small, really... and too much for them to handle, but not from a performance standpoint.

The car is a true all original survivor with only 30k miles on it. Numbers matching, original paint, no accidents, nothing. They don't have the resources to keep this car in the condition it needs to be kept. Toss in some legal issues... and you can understand the need for a sale.

It has spent all but the last three years in a garage. The last three years, it has been sheltered, parked on concrete, with three different covers over it - a conventional car cover, another fabric cover, and finally, a tarp. I pulled back the cover and the paint still looks very good. A quick polish and it should shine like the sun! The chrome has some marking, but a gentle polish should recover all but the worst pitting. The next owner may want to rechrome them, but that's their decision.

I have yet to see the paperwork, but from what I have been told, it is extensive and goes back to the original window sticker. I hope this is true!

The car will be at my house next weekend, where I will inspect for rust and start the detailing process. I do know there is a brake issue to address.

I do not know if the tires are original to the car, if they prove to be, I will have a tough time taking them off... I might just leave them for the next owner to assess.

If the car is as good as I expect it to be, this is NCRS dream. I am guessing it will get ribbons out the wazoo without much effort on the part of the buyer. The original owner was anal about keeping the car GM pure, and his heirs have been unable to spend time messing it up!

Remember, this is an original SoCal car, bought here in Los Angeles. I do not yet know the dealer.

I will update this thread with those details as soon as I get them, and a price, once I assess the condition of the body and frame. Plus some comparative research.

Additionally, this car will be advertised in several national venues, Auto Trader Classics and a few Vette specialty sites, plus craigslist.

This will be nationally marketed, it is a car for a serious collector who want's original, not overly restored. Believe me, it will have 40 years of gentle use, and I am not covering up one wrinkle. The next owner can be proud to show off those minor imperfections to prove the car has lasted this long, just as St Louis intended it to look.

Again, pictures next week sometime!!!
