All of the drive systems are from Jones Racing Products, they can make anything work, SM or BB or LS (http://www.JonesRacingProducts.com)
This engine revs to 8500-9000 easily and normally I shift at 7500. The lack of revs is what I really disliked about my L98, which was essentially dead at 4500. I am amazed how strong the LS7 is all the way up to 7000. That is screaming for a 427!

Thanks,
Here are a few more and my new aluminum hat rear rotors: I have 3 sets of wheels. The OE, and 2 sets of CCW Corsairs. The original set was not coated so some pics show that. I then got them powdercoated a dark grey. The other set of CCW's are anodized black.

Congrats! Let's get more C6 guys over here. Here is a pic of mine:

Absolutly, me too. It lists torque as an output, as well as wheel speed on all 4. So, if you know the torque and wheel speeds, you have an active dyno. If you have wheel spin, you will see less torque.

Thanks! The downside of a system like this will really show where one "needs improvement" or AKA "where you suck".

It does have all of predictive timing and is plug in so you can see what Tony Stewart could do in your car if he was driving. I hate to say this on THIS forum, but the C4 has nothing on a C6Z, it is just a matter of $. It is like a F-4 Phantom versus an F-22 Raptor. I run quicker lap times than C4 GT-1 cars at NHMS, and I have A/C, Nav system, power windows and get 28 MPG on the highway.

Nope, these are PFC ZR33 calipers on Hardbar rotors. I should have the new AP racing Radi-cal calipers on all 4 corners. They are the new DTM (German touring car series) calipers with an air bridge to cool the outside on the caliper and rotor.

I saw this at PRI, and I was extremely impressed. I think I will end up getting this with the G2X pro. I spoke to Tim Anderson (423.968.5429, tim aht racepak.com.) and it looks like the G2X Pro is better for me since I do so much shock and spring development, I can add the shock displacement transducers and ride height sensors. For most guys the cheaper G2X is the way to go, and it has a very cool small dash to go with it as well.

A friend found these pics of my old car. I could never win a COMSCC with it mainly due to a 150HP disadvantage to the damn ZR-1's. I had poly bushings, Koni 4PA's on custom mounts (made by me, pre Hardbar days. They had titanium cross pins in a CNC block), brake mods but stock LOOKING, Goodyear GS-CS track tires, measly 245 HP, but lots and lots of set-up and practice time. Since I live so close the NHMS, I had to substitute a good setup for -150 HP. I even had a pro Indy car driver drive it, and he ran the piss out of it and I was still about 4-5 tenths quicker than him so I felt good. I really liked that car but the L98 just would run out of breath at 4500-5000 RPM and I hated that. It made me really appreciate the LS7 I have now that I routinely take to 7K with more than 2x the power.

This new guy seems to be a phone company bean counter. Since SCCA is a "member driven organization", I do wonder why we had no vote on this. I am not optimistic that he will do anything to boost interest in this "club".

New Penske shocks from Hardbar |

The Penske 8200 LE is a brand new shock system that uses all of the superb first class Penske 8700 3 way shock with a new internal separator piston to provide a low cost option. Hardbar and Leading Edge worked with Penske to offer this exclusive option. Now you can have the very best and upgrade as your needs and budget permit. This is an upgradeable system that has the capability of being easily converted to the 8300 2 speed or 8700 3 speed at a later time, by removing the separator piston and adding the hoses and canisters. All of the internal parts, and all of the best in class Hardbar mounts including the 17-4 PH "T" bar, the upper clevis mounts, and the adjustable rear lower clevis (shown in red anodized finish) are the same as the 8700 series. This shock has the best spring adjuster available on Acme threads as well. These are priced each and springs are optional as well. Suitable for leaf or coil-over applications. These are $550 each plus springs (if desired). As with all Hardbar products, they are 100% made in USA and each one is individually dyno'ed and you get the data files.

Think of the different lines as tools for your toolbox or weapons for the fight. You are the one ultimately that has to decide and the more tools (or weapons) that you have the better you will be prepared. It has been said in many ways, but "The more thou sweat in training, the less thou bleed in combat".

With SCDA I had a guy in a brand new Viper who had never been to the track ever. As an FYI, Loudon is NOT a place to screw around, at least 2 pros have died there. He is a contractor and is used to bossing all of his Union guys around and does not want to listen to a GD thing I say. He is doing tank slappers into every corner so I say pull in and let me out. I go to Bill who is Chief Instructor and tell him that this guy needs a new instructor. The call goes out on the corner worker radios that the Viper needs a new instructor. Ashley calls out "get Gary to work with him". Then they say "Gary is the one that wants out". They say OK then, Bill will deal with him. Sometimes, you just have to say no.

Yea, I am just having fun with Corvette guys. Here is a pic of me as Brian Cunningham's instructor at the brand new New Jersey Motorsports park in August. Man, I am so claustrophobic in those, I have to slide down against the sub strap to get any headroom.

Chatterbox is what we use as well. Bill, do you ever sleep? What time is it in Reno, 0530?
Here is why Corvette owners need to learn how to drive. Do you really want a Spec Miata to pass you because you really can't drive as well as your ego says you do?

Halleyuah! I instruct for several reasons and I am a very generous person, but enough is enough sometimes. I like to have one student per day, sometimes 2. It is not bad to have 2 if one is a total newbie, and the other is an intermediate that needs some fine tuning. It is especially helpfull for the intermediate driver to have in-car video that we can review together. The reasons I instruct are (in no particular order) 1) Give it back to people (like the movie 'Pay it forward") 2) I always learn something, even after running at NHMS for 18 years. 3) Meet new people, make friends 4) Test new Hardbar products and get seat time for myself

I say the same things and would add (at NHMS):
Roger Penske is not in the stands scouting Ryan Newman's replacement These NASCAR "soft walls" are not very soft so don't hit them I don't care how many Miatas pass you, let's learn the line The brakes are for braking, not the engine

Here is what my 2000 FRC looked like after a cut RR Hoosier put me into T3 at Loudon.
I really liked that car before I crunched it: and here is what a Hardbar customer did to his C5 at about 100MPH. With the Teamtech Rampac, it does not fall off of your shoulders because of the unique design. We both walked away unhurt, and there are many other examples. Well my 3080 pound (and that is light!) C6Z would crush that trailer! I used to tow this with a 5.3L Silverado 1500 and it was working very hard. I now use an '07 Silverado 2500 HD with a 6.0L and it works much better. However, I wish I had a 750HP turbo diesel sometimes on hills!

Most don't and I'd much rather see guys concentrating on lines, consistant brake points, etc. on their first time out.
I totally agree. You could be driving a first class C6ZO6 with Penske coil overs, big brakes and Hoosiers and will get smoked by Miatas and Rabbits until you learn how do do this sport. It is really a matter of practice just like anything else. Where are you located? If you can go to Pocono, you seem to be in the NE. If you can get to NHMS, I would be happy to help you. Check out www.scda1.com for next years' schedule. Cheers, Gary Hoffman Hardbarusa.com

You are right, cleanup should be a matter of lifting up the front and hosing out the trailer through the side door. The diamond plate was RTV bonded as well as screwed down so any leaks through the seams should be minimized.
As far as my cabinets go, I bought the trailer used and they were already there. They are wood but seem custom made for the trailer with an aluminum bench top and big giant vise. It is dual wired for both 110VAC and 12VDC lighting. It also has very cool backup lights that are angled out from the sides with big spot lights. The previous owner ran GT-1 cars so the compound ramp can accommodate really low air dams. It also has a first class Superwinch with remote control mounted powered by a giant truck battery in the cabinets with the cable going through a hole in the middle bottom of the cabinets. It has roof access through a big vent and a pull down aluminum ladder that folds into the ceiling. The spare tire holder shown is from Pit Pal products and that was purchased used from Suzie Hiniker (a local Ferrari racer, who is really nice and a real looker as well) that was surplus for her. It allowed me to eliminate the trap door on the floor for the trailer spare which was usually covered up by the tie downs during use anyway. I paid $5k for this trailer about 4 years ago, and I still think it was a deal!

Even drag racers can utilize less rotating mass, it makes a big difference. This is a "flexure floater" that accommodates the thermal expansion, without moving parts. The above prototype has been redesigned to accept any caliper. We moved the hat flange to being inboard of the rotor and using some Aerospace unique fasteners (that are basically unknown to the automotive biz, but you see them every time you board a Boeing 737 around the door) we are able to get a totally flush face on both sides. This way, it can accommodate any caliper that comes on the Corvette, slide rails included, without compromising cooling and uses standard rotors. I wish I had thought of this before the above prototypes were made, but, oh well, this is fine for the Wilwood, PFC or AP calipers that I might use.

It is hard to beat the Bilsteins on a dollar basis. The Koni's are adjustable but it is such a PINA that you won't bother. The KYB's are really soft, to the point that they are not really there doing much. These are shocks we tested, results may vary. Keep in mind except for the Penskes (lower right) we have had only one sample of each of the others and it is not good science to draw conclusions from one sample.
The upper left is a QA1 The lower left is Bilstein Upper right is a KYB Lower right is a Penske I have much more data but some get all upset if I publish. Others can post as they see fit. Let's discuss what we see. I can say the Penske is the best curve, almost no hysteresis (i.e. the lines track the same going out and coming back in) and the KYB has very little of anything (however it was very used). I will be glad to publish our Penske dyno data, perhaps you can get the other vendors to voluntarily publish their results.

Not just those Pep Boys brands, US made are: Penske, Pro, Afco, QA-1, and realistically, Bilstein (they have a huge plant here). I have dyno data (that we ran personally on a new Roherig shock dyno) of C4 KYB's and they are not very impressive (I am being VERY PC here). People get mad at me when I publish real data on shocks and to be honest, the more you know, the less you will want some of what is out there.

Well, the C4 does not have an internal drum type parking brake so that would make it easier, and perhaps someone does make it. In the C5/C6 world, there is no aluminum hat rear rotor available, anywhere. The thing that makes this possible is new Mil-spec coatings that we have acces to that allow the drum parking brake to run on a very hard and durable surface. In addition, and I could be wrong, but I do not think the C4 market would accept the cost of it.

Rotor weight is a BIG deal. It not only reduces unsprung weight (mass) but for every pound (roughly) you remove off the rotating assembly, it is like aprox. 7 pounds of vehicle weight. This is relevant for both acceleration and braking. Also, the cooling is much better over the OE non directional rotors and this design also keeps the bearings cooler for longer life. All good..

And yes, the parking brake does work! Unfortunately, the C6ZO6 stock PBR caliper cannot be made to fit, it hangs down too far and the clearances here are already VERY tight for the bolt heads and hat. Note how the AN (aircraft)fasteners have the bolt heads "captured" and cannot rotate. They are sized correctly to have no threads in shear and we use Nordlocks under the nuts. Also, note the rotor and hat interface area is minimized for optimum heat transfer (isolation) into the hat. Again, we focus all of our time and money on solid basic engineering principles and back it up with testing.
Here are a few more pics: In this pic (again, before coating) you can see how close the tolerances are, and 12 point jet nuts will be substituted on Thursday this week. We now have a rear rotor for C5/C6/C6Z that has an aluminum hat (with a Mil-spec coating for the parking brake), directional curved vane rotors and weighs only 14.2 pounds! This is a 5 pound saving over the C6Z rotors and a 6 pound savings over the C6 rotors (each!). It is a direct bolt on with no changes necessary for stock C6 and C6Z(with any aftermarket caliper). It can be used on C5's with a change in the caliper bracket from the original to the C6 version. As with all Hardbar products, we use nothing but the best engineering, design, materials, hardware and of course, is 100% made in USA. We did no less than 6 load cases on this, and am only showing one. Here are a couple of sneak peeks at it, (more pics to follow). Available in February, 2009.

Actually, it is nicer in person than these pics. The aluminum adds about 200 pounds but since the trailer is 3700 already, it is not noticeable to my Silverado 2500 HD. The base floor is plywood over steel beams and there was some minor wood rot, but not enough to worry about, and with the adhesive and screws is makes the floor stiffer anyway.

The floor on my trailer was really getting nasty, so I gentleman I met through SCDA that owns a sheet metal shop helped me out. Jim Farley drives a Noble and was my student last year a couple of times and I helped him find new rotors for his car, showed him how to camber it and other set up tricks. His shop, Custom Sheet Metal, Manchester, NH did this to my trailer with .062 aluminum diamond plate and the workmanship is fantastic! They used stainless steel flat head screws that are countersunk, TIG welded corners, brake-bent lips all around, RTV bonded as well and just totally first class. The real kicker, is he did it for just the material cost, $450! Thanks, JIM!

Let's not forget the incestuous relationship with insurance companies as well.

Ive spent eight years in traffic services, and I was a crash reconstructionist for five years before that, Michigan State Police Lieutenant Gary Megge told the News. So Ive seen my share of fatal wrecks, and I can tell you: Deaths are not caused by speeding. Theyre caused by drinking, drugs and inattentiveness. The old adage that speed kills just isnt realistic. The safest speed is the speed that is correct for that roadway at a given time. A lot of speed limits are set artificially low.... It just doesnt seem right to me that we would enforce a law where 90-98 percent of the people are in violation of it, Lieutenant Megge told the News. Its not the way we should do business in this country.
