I still have my right front tire/wheel off while I was changing spark plugs.
It looks like I just remove the caliper bolts and caliper and the hat comes right off. Then install the new rotor, clean and lube the pins, put "brake quiet" on the pad's contact areas and tighten things up to specs.
I tried to loosen the bleeder screw and it came loose rather easily. No rust to speak of on the suspension and brake parts. Thank goodness for southern and western cars!
I may even take a wire brush to the calipers and paint them with some Rustoleum flat black BBQ paint.
I hope the rears are as simple as the front.

I am going to put new rotors and pads on my 91 coupe for my next project.
This will be for both front and rear. The car does not have the heavy duty system so I believe these are just the 12" rotors.
I open the FSM to the brakes section and read: "Refer to the 1990 Service Manual for brake service". WTF!
I am sure the C4's system is similar to other GM products that I have done before but I need to know torque settings. I will be installing new brake hoses and fluid too.
Anyone got an on line source that I could reference?
Thanks!

There was an article in one of the Corvette rags a few years ago about a company that made electrical heating grids that would give you heated seats for those cold mornings.
You remove your seat covers and place these between the leather and the foam. They have them for the seat cushions and the backs too.
A Google search might find the supplier for you.
Do you have a satellite radio setup? I had XM in my old truck and loved to be able to listen to all the baseball and football games as I travelled. The only drawback is that you would lose the signal if tall mountain peaks or forests blocked out the satellite. XM also had stations that would perform plays such as mysteries, comedies, drama for you. My grandkids loved listening to the kids shows too.

An update. My doc has me on some serious meds that are supposed to slow the disease down. They give me some very intense, Technicolor dreams (some of them quite sexy!).
Now that the house is all set to sell I have rediscovered "Corvette therapy" and garage time.
Each morning I exercise, do chores and any shopping that I need to do.
I spend the afternoon and evening working on the Corvette. Now that I do not have to go to work I finally get to enjoy my garage space and tools.
What a pleasure to be able to work in comfort and not have to worry about time constraints.
I have installed the hot-tanked TPI manifold and runners and had some help from family and friends. My engine compartment is beginning to look quite nice as I have been able to use a power sprayer to remove most of the dirt and grease. I have taken my time and cleaning/replacing things as I go.
I am installing things that I purchased but never had the time to bolt on. Today I squirted a bit of marine fogging oil into the cylinders and turned the engine over at the damper with a breaker bar. Made me feel good to lube it up a bit before starting it again (has been sitting for quite some time). Since I am installing a new MSD distributor I will use an old shaft with a drill motor and spin the oil pump to add oil throughout the system. Then on to new plugs, Taylor wires, wire looms, rebuilt water pump, egr eliminator kit, under drive pulleys, hoses, coolant and connecting all the sensors.
The MSD sheet advised me to drain any synthetic oil and put in dino oil with a new filter (as a break in for the distributor gear) so I did that over the weekend.
My doc said I should do crossword puzzles to exercise my brain. I am finding out that trying to figure out how to get to the #6 and #8 spark plugs and how to put all the TPI puzzle parts and related sensors back together is just as challenging. Lots more fun too!
Detroit Tiger games at night on the tube - nutritious food and sleep. Life is good right now and I am trying to enjoy it as much as possible.
The first photo shows the bright stripe I painted on my crank damper. I should be able to see the timing light now!

Poured it in my son in law's '04 GMC 1/2 ton so it would mix with the other stuff. Some of the gas in there was probably 2 years old and who knows how much condensation?
Would love to go to the race course but still got to install new distributor, water pump, EGR elim kit, convert my 91 TPI sensors to work with an 89 plenum, change oil, refill with coolant, change plugs/wires, install throttle body, set timing etc. I hope the biotch snarts, farts and starts! Then paint the nose and tail and put her up for sale.
Edit: Gots to figure out which one (or more) of my FX3 shock controllers is bad. I have a couple of replacements so should be ok. And then there is flushing brake fluid and installing 4 new brake hoses.
I won't be leaving the garage for some time! (Lovin almost every minute of it too !)

From positive battery clamp to the G terminal. Now I did find that my battery terminal (threaded hole) was slightly stripped so I re-tapped it to get a tighter fit. Have not tried the procedure again though as my helper is busy now.

Distributor is not even installed yet. You are right - that is one of the things the ecm checks for. I will just drain the tank the old fashion way and keep on truckin.
Here is the start sequence for the L98:

In the process of getting the C4 ready for the road and running/looking nice.
My crew of helpers and I are now installing a fresh TPI system that I got from someone on the CF.
Thought I would drain the fuel out of the tank as I am not sure how it has held up for the too many months it has been off the road.
I tried this tip:
"Disconnect the fuel line at the filter, have a few big fuel cans ready, and run a piece of line into the can. Now run 12V to terminal G on the ALDL...your tank will evacuate very quickly. Be ready. Also be ready to yank the wire out when the tank gets close to being empty or you will burn up your fuel pump....they don't like to run dry."

So - gave it a try. Nothing. Freshly charged battery, no fuel coming out of the inlet line and no fuel pump sound. Tried it with the key out of the ignition and again with the key in the run position. Interior lights and dash board light up so I must be getting juice.
I cannot find the source for this tip - just had saved the printount from some forum or internet search from several months ago. Mine is an L98 (1991) and has the 12 pin diagnostic connector. We double checked and had the correct terminal (G is in the lower left corner according to my reference book). My reference book does show a diagram of a later 12 pin and 16 pin diagnostic connector and says, "The 1994-96 vehicles may use either a 12 or 16 pin DLC.
There was a diagram of the 94-96 DLC also and it shows no terminal G.
Any clues? Looks like I may just siphon the stuff straight out of the tank instead.

Yeah - sold it on the big forum. Guess I should have held on to it a bit longer.
Thanks for the encouragement!

Well that was fun and interesting! Sold it to a local guy who only lived about 1/2 hour away. I got close to what I wanted. He saw the eBay ad and messaged me so we could meet. He did a test drive this morning and brought his wife back to look at it in the afternoon. Cash sale, 4 days to sell and I sold my utility trailer to him too!
Gotta love America!
One of the neighbors came over while we were working on the C4 and it looks like I might have sold that to him (pending his wife/girlfriend's approval). One of the guys helping me out suggested I reinstall the TPI system as that would enable us to get the car running quicker with less hassle.
One thing lead to another and here we go. The neighbor always loved the look of the "snake pit" style runners (his words).
I advertised on the big Forum and found some one to trade me one system for the other. It is complete, looks good and was sitting on his shelf. We are swapping packages back and forth from Ohio tomorrow. Only cost me $24 to ship it Priority Mail and insure it for $300. I bought a set of plenum and intake gaskets along with O ring sets to redo the fuel rail and FPR. Going to stay with the MSD billet distributor I was going to use for the LT-1 conversion. Paint all the runners/plenum/base back to stock colors and bolt it all together with now blue Taylor plug wires and the AIR pump elim kit. Should show nice and still have that L98 grunt.

Thanks everyone. You make me smile!
OK. Two days on the Bay. 150 or so views and 10 "watchers". My local mechanic has let me put the truck out in front of his shop with the price listed in the window along with a "details" flyer. I have buffed and waxed it up nice and she is shining like a chrome air cleaner at a car show on a sunny day.
When my house sells I will post up when my garage sale will be. Some lucky sun'vgun is going to waltz in there and find the tool bargain sale of the century. It will be a car guy's bonanza. Might be worth your while if you can get to the W Michigan area.
I have 3 guys coming over tonight to start on getting my 91 ready for sale. I have a 21 point check list of things to do. I doubt if we can get it all done this weekend though.
Kind of a neat thing to pass along: I posted my car for sale, in "as is" condition on the big Forum and explained why I was selling. Someone lowballed me a bit so I decided to pull the ad and get it running before selling. Well, one of the Forum members who had bought some used C4 badges from me about 5 months ago saw this and sent me a Paypal for an extra $50 saying that I was in his prayers and he felt he had under paid for the badges. He said that I could use the extra cash for gas money. Holy moly! They are still out there - good people! I do not need money. I need to get rid of STUFF. I felt he paid a very fair price for the badges. So - I offered him my C4 No Flex bars for cheap in order to reward him for his kindness. I got them off the car and they are going out today. These cost $500 from Vette2Vete plus shipping (I did not pay near that). I gave him a substantial discount. His C4 will now drive much better and no longer have the loosey goosey feeling with the targa off.
I will not publish his name as I am sure that he is not that kind of guy. He lives in Rhode Island. His kind heartedness to a stranger really lifted my spirits. Life can be great sometimes!

I have sold several things on the Bay over the years but never a vehicle. If this is not too much of a hassle then I will try the 91 next.
As some of you know I have a medical condition that is causing my memory to deteriorate. Vascular Dementia (Alzheimer's). I am trying to sell off all I can while I still have my s*** together. We have the house for sale now and will move to Florida to be near a couple of our kids who can help my wife when I get bad.
But - I am a Christian and am positive there is a better deal out there for me. This life was fun most of the time and kind of a bitch at others. I am cool with the whole thing though. None of us are getting out of here alive after all.
There is going to be one heck of a garage sale when the house goes as I have a ton of goodies in my pole barn and I will be selling them all at a reasonable price.
Anyway - I will update y'all on my eBay experience.
In case you want to look at the truck then just go to Ebay Motors and search for "Nissan Frontier" It is the only one in Lowell, Michigan listed for a $6,200 "buy it now". I would appreciate any criticism or tips. Being a car nut I have tended to over maintain it.
My son, his friend and my son in law are helping me to get my 91 running again. I will try eBay if it works with the truck. The guys have a great deal of engineering, computer skills, good-ol-boy smarts and mechanical skills between them. Mine are getting a bit shaky.
You guys and gals here have been a hoot!

That is so great! I saw that car while there this spring and bought a ticket for the 2011 Jake Grand Sport that was raffled off Saturday. I did not receive a call so it must have gone to someone else.

Original owner, Danny Johnson has been hired by the company to run the operation again. The guy he sold the company to a while back is out of the picture.

Mike was inducted into the Great Hall over the weekend and I was fortunate enough to chat with him and get his autograph on a new copy of his 2013 Corvette Black Book.
I asked him if he actually owned a Corvette. He told me that he had recently sold his 2008 and was thinking about what his next one might be. I asked if it would be a 2014 C7 and he stated that he was not sure yet and wanted to see which color might complement the new look the best.
I asked what gave him the idea to publish the Black Book and he said that during the 1970s he became interested in Corvettes and realized that this was a niche that had not been filled so he stepped in and got it done.
I told him how I really enjoyed his C4 Specs book and how I had read it cover-to-cover when I was unable to work a few years ago due to a broken ankle. (I did not read all the manufacturer's summaries though as they are too detailed).
Mike appears to be a good guy who is not full of himself like some people in the Corvette biz are prone to be.
Meeting him was the highlight of my trip to Champaign, IL !

American Hydrocarbon just purchased both the front and rear spoilers from the Italian company that makes these and is gearing up to produce them in the U S. They will fit any generation of C4 and can be made in carbon fiber or fiberglass. You paint to match your car or just leave the carbon fiber ones in their natural state.

Todd decided to tie the knot with his long-time girlfriend.

One evening, after the honeymoon, he was cleaning his Corvette. His wife was standing there watching him.

After a long period of silence she finally speaks. "Honey, I've been thinking, now that we are married, I think it's time you sold that old car."

Todd gets this horrified look on his face.

She says, "Darling, what's wrong?"

"There for a minute you were sounding like my ex-wife."

"Ex wife!" she screams, "I didn't know you were married before!"

I wasn't!

My Dad bought American Motors cars too. Even though he worked for Fisher Body (GM) as a diemaker he could get a nice discount on Nash cars because his Dad worked at Nash Kelvinator.
He bought a new one every 2 years. I can still see the mint green 57 Rambler he bought brand new. We broke it in on a road trip from Michigan to my Mother's parents house near Dallas. It actually had a REAR SPEAKER! We could listen to Elvis and Buddy Holly rockin and a rollin on Route 66.
My kid sister spilled an entire chocolate shake down into that rear speaker and it never worked again
We loved the Burma Shave signs
Let me go out to the garage and take a couple of quick pics.

When are you going to order it and what shade of blue?
Don't forget to check off the Z51 box!
Hmmm - I think Laguna Blue Tintcoat?

Here is the answer I got from Jon at FIC.

hi the second o ring is not a seal it’s a seat that sits in the chamfer of the manifold to hold the injector further in the rail//

looks perfect

jon

Now - local speed shop is drilling and tapping my remote thermostat housing to accept the water temp sensor. That, and a few other details will let me proceed.

The unit is not mounted on the block/heads yet. Several here have said the upper O ring should be seated into the intake's port.
I have an e-ail in to Jon and waiting for an answer.

Jon, I purchased these from you for my 91 L98 but have now switched the car over to a modified LT1 intake manifold.
Just installed them using new fuel rail to injector O rings but I don't think they are seated far enough into the manifold.
What can I do to make them seat properly?
Thanks in advance for your help.

No way normal Ron.

Don't attempt to start the car with them like that.

The O-rings have to seat down in the bore.

Thanks - I am contacting Jon right now to get his advice.

Those don't look like they're seated correctly in the manifold. FIC sent me another set of o-rings to add to get my Bosch III's to seat correctly (the Bosch don't use the clips to hold he injectors into the rail like the factory injectors do). You might want to send your pic to him.

Thanks - I will do that.

Some pics of where I stopped work tonight. Way behind on this project due to the major flooding that ruined the rooms in my basement a few weeks ago.

Painted the manifold Chevy engine blue to sort of match the blue car.
Andy sold me his fuel line from Bastet's car's former LT1 conversion.

I am converting my 91 L98 manifold to a modified LT1 intake manifold. I reused the BoschIII injectors I got from FIC. They are still new in my mind as they have very few miles on them.
I did purchase new O rings for the fuel rail side as I know these can get ripped/cut easily.
I have four questions: 1. What should I torque the fuel rail to manifold bolts to? 2. What should I torque the manifold to head bolts to? 3. Should I use thread sealer on the manifold to head bolts? 4. Does this look normal? I thought the injectors would seat farther into the manifold. Looks like only the bottom O rings are down in the pockets.

I was looking for a roll-around table to replace the one that I backed over with my truck .
Found this and I think it is a great product. I am able to remove all the parts I had scattered around the garage for my latest project and put them all in one location.
It was easy to assemble and has a good sized locking drawer for extra storage. Don't know why I would ever want to lock it though. It also has 4 wheels (two of them lock). Powder coated red too!
Now all I need are some vintage STP and Isky cam stickers to put on it. Who had that woodpecker smoking a cigar logo? Was it Crower cams? Need one of these too.
Cost was around $70.

I found an extended stay motel near the show. They still have vacancies but you must stay for 3 nights. Think the price was $165 with all taxes.

We feel your pain here in Michigan as things have sucked and spit here too. Now 2 days above 80 degrees and the friggin grass is growin like a mo fo!
My son in law loaned me one of the giant mowers from one of his schools (he is head of maintenance at a school system). That school hired a lawn service a few years ago and laid off their lawn guy. They had no place to store it so told him he could store it at home and use it. I put it in my pole barn and had a blast with it (steers like a tracked vehicle). I did not want it in the pole barn this winter as that is where I park my truck in the nasty weather and also where I keep the Vette.
To make a long story short, he has a friend with some property and parked it there under a tarp. Went over to get it 2 days ago so I can start mowing and.........dude got a divorce and sold the damn mower and its trailer to help pay the lawyer fees!
Now the son in law is trying to buy the mower and trailer back from the guy that bought it as he does not want to get fired if and when the school system learns about it.
So I gotta find a Craigslist lawn tractor before the lawn turns into a jungle. Can't afford new as I am paying for the new carpet and drywall for my flooded basement, just paid friggin taxes and needing some cash to mod and paint the Vette this summer.
Life sure can get messy.

I vividly remember attending a Springtime Corvette show in May of 1996 with my new to me triple black 1981 Corvette that had been converted to a roadster. I was proud as could be! Until............a shiny new Grand Sport convertible parks next to my 15 year old Vette.
Instant envy and jealousy. Why couldn't that be me?

Later on in the show a trio of ZR-1s pulled in together. They were revving on everyone, cleaning the rubber off the body panels behind their rear wheels and talking about the drag strip they had just visited. Again! Instant jealousy, envy and yes, HATE!
I know when I attend Bloomington Gold this year I will see the new C7 on display, some beautiful C6 427 verts and several ZR1/Z06s in all their glory.
That little bite of envy will still be there but hopefully I have grown a bit more mature and will just be able to appreciate how beautiful these fine machines look.
A relative sent me this video today. Kinda points out the important things again. Thought I would share.
