toptechx6: Thanks for your response - and I apologize as well for my unnecessary knee jerk intial response. Ahh yes, disabling the ignition would of course make much more sense than disabling the starter! I appreciate your comments as well about your previous experience and ensuring the battery is fully charged if I do go ahead and try that, although given your comments perhaps I will go ahead and turn it over as-is and just let it warm up to operating temps. Cheers

Thanks - Nope, I don't think a degree in Architecture is going to make any difference on this one. Definitely don't want to get into removing the manifold at this point.
Are you suggesting that the oil pressure is not something I should be overly concerned about under the circumstances? Thanks

Perhaps you should go back and read my post again - I didn't ask for suggestions on what to do when preparing for storage. All you have done is make yourself look like the grand hero, and me the idiot for pointing out things you are ASSUMING I didn't do. In fact I did ALL of those things except for fogging the intake before putting the car in storage, I didn't feel it was necessary to list everything I had done last August given the nature of my question. I live in CANADA - do you think I'm an idiot and wouldn't check my coolant protection? Right.
My question was with regard to a procedure for creating oil pressure in the engine before firing it up. I will give you one point for stroking your own ego.

Hey guys,
So my 96 LT4 has been in storage for the past 9 months in Edmonton as my wife and I moved to Montreal so I could complete a Masters Degree. I have 3 months left in my program, but we are putting our post-Montreal plan of action into effect now. We are planning to move out to Vancouver Island (BC) in August, but we have need to make a quick trip to the west coast later this week. I am taking advantage of the fact that we are making the trip to move the vette out to the coast now - where it will stay in storage for another 3 months at my Dad's place next to his 93 ruby vert (w/ 5500 miles). My QUESTION is with regard to a hard start after 9 months of no activity. I had the woman we are curerently storing the car with (family friend) go out to the garage last night and lift the car cover and open the car door to see if the battery still had juice - interior lights came on, which is a good sign (I have it on a battery tender but you just never know). I read at one time there was a method by which I could disable the starter.... I think?, which would allow me to turn the key to on and create oil pressure with turning it over and creating a hard start on engine that has been dry for 9 months. Am I correct here, and if so what is the procedure.... I will have limited tools, etc. with me as we are of course flying to Edmonton, but I can certainly take a few things. In addition, after allowing the car appropriate time to warm up (allow all fluids to reach operating temp.) we will be proceeding immediately on a 200 mile trip to Calgary, followed by a 600 mile trip out to the west coast the following day So, any other suggestions on how to mitigate impact on a hard start and an immediate long-distance trip after 9 months of inactivity would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Scott

ahaha... I'm starting to feel like this place is turning into a halfway house for convicted former CF contributors.
Better yet - perhaps we have just seen the light, we have been SAVED! AMEN!!

But seriously, which is better, dino or syn? I NEED TO KNOW!!!
Plus, I heard it was a good idea to cut your motor oil 50/50 with water to allow for better lubrication and save on oil costs? Is this true? I know it works for brake fluid. AHAHA - I've officially had my last post on CF removed and the "Are 92-96's still fast" thread has been locked.

Yep, I don't think there's any doubt in my mind that he took steroids/HGH, and he looks like a fool for trying to deny it.
However, the drugs weren't banned by MLB at the time, so as wrong as it might be, poor example for kids, etc. he wasn't breaking any rules, so why the big 3-ring circus. Who really cares? The best part is that he threw his wife under the bus. "Oh yeah, I wouldn't touch that stuff, it's bad.... but my wife took it for our SI swimsuit shoot". What a tool.

Sweet! Definite sleeper! It's like the best of both worlds, the white with black top looks so classy, like a girl you want to take home to your Mom. Yet under the hood you find that she is the kinkiest girl in the neighbourhood!

AHAHAHA - Good call. Mee no goud typerist!!! What!? They gave Mr. Mojo the boot? I guess that would explain why I haven't seen him on CF for a while! Yet another reason to jump off the sinking CF ship. Although I think I may have just done that with my most recent post in the on-going "is the LT-1 fast" discussion.

In my heart it does bug me to see bad grammar, but I choose not to respond over getting on sombody's case. Everyone has things they do not do well. I let a lot of things go too - I understand what you're saying, but this was just brutal. Hey, everyone makes mistakes! I'm a poor typer myself, but I always re-read my posts quickly and try to catch and correct my mistakes. But this was just so far beyond a few mistakes, and it culminated in his last line in which he mistakenly (I think?) indicated that he had "rode his girlfriend and that she enjoyed it". I just couldn't let this one go. It was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back

Yep, I'm watching the thread and adding to my previous comments whenever someone has something new to say regarding my comments.
I'm just trying to decide if I'll go out guns-a-blazing and tell them all to go f**k themselves, or if I should just let it go... Might be kind of fun to tell them what I REALLY think

Nope, I just said enough was enough.
I mean, there's always going to be some crap - that's unavoidable, but when the crap significantly outweighs the good it's time to move on. Glad to see much of the braintrust didn't in fact dissapear and had just moved over here. Apparently I was just slow on the uptake

Ahhhh, the infamous Central Coaster!! You my friend are a popular topic of discussion on CF... at least you were until the thread was locked and deleted.
Yes, as I said in my last CF post, apparently setting my expectations above a Grade 3 level was unrealistic. I am definitely liking what I see here so far!!!! The only downside is now I am a NOOOOOB again

Hey Bogus!
This site looks great. I signed up a while ago, but as I said, I was reluctant to make the change - until today. I am impressed with how far you have come with this site, and I am definitely a permanent fixture here! Best of luck! :thumbright:

Well, I should have known this would happen eventually. The "other" Corvette website has been in slow decline for some time as many of the regulars have left, moved on, moved here, etc.
There was a post this afternoon asking "Is the LT1 still fast". The thread was horribly written, brutal grammar, and full of spelling mistakes, etc. It actually hurt to read it, and it appeared to have been written by a 6-year old. I made a comment that perhaps the OP should learn how to write and use proper english. Well, apparently I'm an ignorant a**hole, because I have an expectation for at least semi-intelligent adult conversation. I have been reluctant to make the switch as I don't like change, and I have enjoyed the "other" site for nearly 4 years now... but I'm tired of the BS, so here I am. I also know that the originator of this site is a tireless contributor to those who own C4's and it's time to show some support! Plus, this site has better emoticons
