93 vette coupe - when i put my brakes on hard, i do not feel anything in my pedal or feel of the car that my anti-locks are working. the brakes do not lock, but it takes a longer than normal time for the car to slow down.

I have had new pads, rotors, master Cyl, brake bleed but still the same. This started several years ago when I first had brake work. The Chev dealer dismissed the mechanic because of shady dealing. i think i do not have the correct brake system or the anti-lock computer is not correct or both.

Can anyone tell me if I should feel the anti-lock engage when i hard brake? Does anyone have any suggestions?

OK..first off, welcome to the guru! Feel free to register..its free! And become a C4guru member.

As far as your brakes, first question...after you start the car up...do you here the antilock system "que up"? There should be a whining noise behind your seat that will last about 3 -4 seconds. Check that and get back to us.

any warning lights on the DIC?

If I am understanding you correctly, it sounds like you have a very firm pedal? If so, it would indicate a failed power brake booster.

Welcome!

Thanks for the feedback. I will listen for the 'start-up'. At this time, I don't remember hearing but will check and let you know.

As for lights - no indicator lights. No on the hard pedel. Brakes work o.k. except when i need to break a little (or a lot) harder than a normal gentle stop. I can stand on the brakes for a real hard stop, and pumping them seems to help stop the car quicker. Replace the master cyl and didn't help.

Im with Bogus here, my 87 had that same sort of issue due to lack of use. Do you hear a hissing sound when you push on the brakes?

The ABS test should happen when you first start moving, if you have your foot on the brake at this stage you might even feel it pulse abit.

Originator -
Yes, the ABS test occurs when I first begin moving. Still having same issue, when putting on the brakes a little hard, takes a long time to slow down and ABS never gives feedback in the petal when pushing on brakes as hard as I can (get to 60-90 mph then stand on the brakes).

Brake booster. Can you hear a hiss when you push the brake? Pump the brakes about 5-10 times before you start the car, then holding the brake on, start the car, and see if it goes down further when the car starts. If not, there is no vacuum in the booster for some reason or another.

As a further attempt to clarify what im saying to check for here, do the brake pedal feel easier to push with the engine running as appossed to the engine turned off?? (try at least ten pushes of each, it should be alot easier to push with the engine running)
