Both could be power, neither could be.

However, if they are, they should move fore/aft and up down with little more than an electric motor whine....

All stock, no mods! Drove on a long trip in early June and used the cruise. Parked the car till Sept 20th. Drove to Effingham. No cruise!! The cruise is part electric and part vacuum. The fuse is good. My repair manual tells me almost nothing about cruise problems. My question: With the fuse good, does this mean I have a vacuum problem or can it possibly still be electrical? Thanks for some help here. jdr

You need to get a factory service manual, all others are a waste of time. To answer your question, yes the problem can still be electrical. There are several switches in the system depending on transmission. The brake switch is one common reason for the cruise not to function, make sure the brake switch is not adjusted too close it can cause the cruise not to work. If the brake switch is okay, make sure you have vacuum at the servo and that the linkage is connected. Beyond that you will need a FSM to trouble shoot, good luck.

There is a vacuum check valve somewhere that you will want to look at as well, and also have a good look at the line running from the servo to the brake pedal to make sure it has no holes or leaks in it, this line releases the vacuum when the brake is pressed.
