Hey. I have been having running rough problems for a while, cyl 2 and 4 skipping also have black tailpipes. Seems to be after hot soak. Runs great until I shut it off!Thinking I have injectors leaking problem after shutting down. Happening more and more lately. Need help on best way to test for bad injectors as I am getting tired of changing plugs on a hot engine! OUCH! Current injector is num 0280150223. Is this the stock injector? What would be best replacement that would not require retune. Pcm is currently tuned for the injectors I now have.
Thanks.
Bob

I am betting those are stock. Are they painted black?

If you can - and this is a pain in the tuckus, really - remove the injectors. Leave them on the rail, but remove the rail. This requires removing the majority of the TPI (sorry).

Remove the rail, but leave it connected to the fuel lines.

Next up, put a strip of cardboard under each bank. Then, turn the key on and look to see what happens. You should get an immediate spray of fuel. Turn off the key, and see which one is weaping.

You can also test this, to a degree, with a fuel pressure gauge.

I defer to FIC for specific injector needs. But if those are OEM, I would replace them.

This could also be a failure of the 9th injector. It is designed to richen the mixture during cold starts.

Bogus: Thanks for the fast response. Yes they are black, the engine was rebuilt before I purchased the car but I have no idea if the injectors were changed.I will try the pressure drop test but if that doesn't show leaking I think the drip test is a great idea, I don't mind pulling the manifold. Removed 9th injector and egr as well years ago, haven't missed them!

I am not a fan of the 9th injector, especially in warmer climes, but EGR? I like it... cheap way to cut down on detonation.

The drip test is VERY effective. I used it to find a bad injector on our Jeep a couple years ago. It was physically dripping gas like cwazy!

I have a 85 with TPI. I have been checking the FIC website and The more research I do the more I think I'm gonna be changing my injectors. I Will be doing a pressure drop test to see if I have a leak. What info do you need to recommend a replacement injector.
Thanks

you need a 24lb injector so we recommend the newer design Bosch 3. We have them in rebuilt for 189 a set or Brand new for 289.. Both have a 3 yr warranty
thanks
