I took a look @ the partions on a old laptop that I wanted to setup for dual boot

On an 80gb harddrive (I said it was old), there's three partitions.

The 1st and the last were for Vista, but the 2nd is unallocated, 46gb on unallocated!!!

Is it actually used for anything?

unallocated? That makes no sense. I wonder if you have a bad drive, and that was declared bad sectors?

it's like this, but I have Presario_RP instead of XP for the last partition

I just loaded Ubuntu into the unallocated space.

Everything on both operating systems seems to work just fine
