I have just bought a 1992 C4 conv. While driving at night or after shutting the car off and leaving it the interior lights stay on for 25 to 30 min.Can anyone shed some light on how to reduce the time they stay on?

Congrats on your purchase.
You'll need to get a FSM, Factory Service Manual, expensive but you can't do a lot on the car without one.

First, go to our Tech Library and download the instructions for pulling codes, again another "must have" but at least it's free and only requires a paper clip.

Anyway, what it sounds like is there may be a faulty door switch. The lights should go out in a couple minutes. If you leave the doors open, they're on a timer in the CCM that will shut them off eventually. If the hatch is open, they won't go off at all (until the battery runs down).

There's no diagnosis chart for this in the FSM but, there is one for "Courtesy Lamps Always On".

This was as large as I could get it. If you can save it in your photo software and enlarge it, you may be able to read it.

Welcome aboard!

Another question for ya... does the seatbelt buzzer buzz? Does the headlight warning chime bong when you open the door?

If not, then the problem is more than likely in the ignition switch. These little contacts wear down over time... I have the same problem and just have'nt had the chance to dig into the column to fix.

Yea, that's one of the checks on the chart. You can get some idea by looking at the gap between the switch and the steering column or turn the switch to "On: and push it towards the column to see if the chimes come on.

My 92's like that (for 5 years) just haven't dug into the column either. I think you have to replace the switch to fix it though. I might get to it in another 5 years.
