JEG66 Intermittent Radio in Convertable C4

Hi All:

I need help. My radio pops alot and now the radio sometimes works and other times does not work even though I hear some audio output from the speakers. I can be driving down the road, everything fine, then it just stops. I can then get in the car at a later time and it works again for a short time.

Replaced all the speaker units a few years ago...

Could it be the receiver or head unit? CD player has not worked for many years.

Thanks for any input.

Jim

Welcome, Jim!!!

What year, specifically?

If I was a betting man, I would bet on the receiver module having crapped out.

I am pretty sure, and since it is easy to prove I ain't all that worried, that all receiver modules for all later C4 Vert's are in the left rear storage bin, with the ABS module.

It is a metal thing, 6"~8" long, about 2" square. It would have a couple of harnesses plugged into it. Oh, and no hoses! That is what creates output signal for the system.

Since the head unit is DOA, too, I would remove both and ship them off to Dr Don's, http://www.doctordons.com/ for repair. He can also update the head unit to accept MP3 player input (replaced the cassette unit with a plate and a plug in from the players headphone jack).

Another chance is that the relay is failing. It is located on the left side of the dash, under the carpeted knee pad and near the trans tunnel. This is for MY1992, but I think the rest are about the same. To be honest, it should be the only relay over there.

Hi Guys...

Thanks for the feedback. The car is a '91 and it is a CD/Casette/Radio Bose system.

I was thinking it was the receiver, but in this model I believe it is under the dash board / not the rear storage bin.

Thanks for your feedback.

Jim, I am far from an expert on the stock bose stuff. This guy is:

Might be worth a call/email.
