Good Morning CGs!

Goofy weather here again. Cold Monday and hot Tuesday. Can't get any consistency.

Monday we drove the kids to Springfield (state capital) for a day trip. About 2 1/2 hours each way. They got to see Lincoln's tomb, Lincoln's house tour, the neighborhood he lived in (restored/preserved), and they got to walk around the capitol building. Then we had some dinner and headed home. A long day but the time we got home and everyone was exhausted. But the kids loved it. We'd like to do it again but stay overnight so we can hit the museums, too.

Still haven't had a chance to tinker with the Vette and find the misfire. Hopefully soon.

Marcus, sorry if I missed it but did you have your 1/2 mile run yet?

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Afternoon CGs!

Happy Father's Day to all.

Kids woke me up this morning and had a scavenger hunt for me to find my gifts. A nice little game that they enjoyed.

This afternoon we have a BBQ at BIL's house.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Morning CGs!

Sorry, it's been a busy week. Lots going on around the house and whatnot.

I have been driving the Corvette for the past few weeks and everything was going good. Of course, that's a sign. Coming home the other night I got off the highway and car started running rough. Feels like an ignition miss. I checked the plugs and pulled one spark plug and everything was good. I haven't had a chance to pull the cap yet. I'll get to it.

That will have to wait because I'm headed over to FIL's house to do a tune-up on the lawn mower and replace the front wheels. Gotta keep the in-laws happy.

Hope everyone has a great Father's Day weekend!

The first thing I would do is clean the throttle body and the IAC. Reset the base idle and check the timing. Clean the MAF while you're at it.

If that doesn't solve the check for vacuum leaks.

Good Evening CGs!

Warm and muggy here. Took the kids to see the new Aladdin movie along with Grandma. They enjoyed it.

Tommy, good score on the wood there. Good luck to Sue with the surgery.

Hope everyone had a great day!

Good Morning CGs!

Sorry I've been missing again for the last few days. Busy with work and family life.

My condolences to Andy and his family on their loss. Having been there myself I know how tough it is, as we all do.

On a slightly more positive note it is my birthday today. I'm getting older but every year I try and I still can't catch Tommy. We had a family dinner last night and tonight I will be going to a local brewery with my wife and a few friends. Should be fun.

The weather is nice here. Hopefully it's the same with everyone else.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Good Morning CGs!

It's a nice day here. Warm and sunny for the time being. I got the grass cut this morning and vacuumed the pool.

I saw the flooding pictures, those are pretty amazing. Not a good way but if you stand back and watch what nature can do you are awe inspired. As it turns out we had a tornado touch down in town the other day when we had our nasty storm with hail. That's according to the weather service. No damage at my house, luckily. Lots of roof and siding damage in various spots, though.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Afternoon CGs!

Turned out to be a nice day. I dug out a tree stump last night and dug out a few bushes this morning. We decided to take one more out but that's for another day.

I was going to take the pool cover off today but it rained quite a bit last night again. Draining that now. No rush as I don't have the supplies I need anyway.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Afternoon CGs!

Turned out to be a nice day after some crazy rain/hail/tornado weather Monday and more rain Tuesday. I volunteered at the kids' school today for field day. It was a good time.

Tommy, how is the brake issue? New master cylinder and a brake bleed should fix you up.

Tool sales are in full swing. Sold a bunch over the holiday weekend.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Morning CGs!

Sorry for the short hiatus.

TB, first thing I noticed was the new signature photo. I perused the missed posts and the pics look good.

Weather here is funky again. Up and down. Cooled off this morning but muggy/humid.

I'm supposed to pick up a new (used) driveshaft for the wife's car today. Buddy has an extra laying around.

Speaking of racoons and animals, had a small herd of deer grazing at the end of the street last night. Mind you, I live in a residential neighborhood. Dog was quite interested in chasing them but that wasn't allowed. So he sat and watched.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Morning CGs!

Spent all morning yesterday working in the yard and garden. The fence is mostly done but I have to cut and weld some.

After the landscaping I had to head to my buddy's shop. Got there at 3 and started working on a 97 trans am. Needed to rebuild the headlight motors which are the same setup as used in the C5 Corvettes. Knocked that out in about an hour and a half or so. We racked the Rogue and his cousin came over and we started working. It fought us the whole way. Control arms didn't want to seat, jam nuts didn't want to move, etc. We spent a good 4 hours on it. Two new struts, two control arms, two outer tie rod ends, and two sway bar end links. While doing the passenger side the CV axle decided it was done being an axle and the inner race/joint decided to separate. We barely touched it. But 105,000 miles and it was done I guess. So we had to replace that as well. Go figure. We ordered some pizza for lunch so we did take a break to collect our thoughts. Finally got out of there around 11.

Sitting at Discount Tire now. I'm a waiter so it's already been an hour and a half and they just pulled the car in. It's only two miles from home and I would have walked but it's raining. Oh well.

I need an alignment after this.

"The money pit"

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Morning CGs!

Apparently I lost another day. Sorry about that.

More goofy weather here. I think the high today is 57 and tomorrow in the 70s.

I have some backyard projects to do today. Our vegetable garden is boxed in with timbers and is 33 (ish) ft front and back and 3 and 1/2 ft deep. The wife decided that she wants a proper fence to keep the rabbits out instead of the chicken wire that has been hastily installed. When she told me that she wanted a fence I advised her that it would take me 8 hours and about $250 to do it the right way. She scoffed. She never believes anything I tell her as far as construction or costs or materials. Of course, she's wrong. She ended up finding some metal decorative fence pieces at Aldi of all places. They are three ft sections so I went and bought 26 of them at $8 a piece. That unfortunately leaves the corners open. I did a little brainstorming and I'm going to use some brake line and bend it up, weld it, and spray it black to match. I think it will look good once done. When I told her that she asked me why I was making so much work for myself! Ugh. Can't win.

After that I'm taking her car to my buddy's shop. I'm doing a little job on his LS firebird and then we're putting the Rogue up on the rack for control arms, struts, and tie rod ends. The never ending saga.

Marcus, the rims look great. I like those better than the original. But that carbon lip would last about 3 days on Chicago roads.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning CGs!

Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes for my daughter. She is 11 years old now. Most of you will remember me posting pictures of her when she was born. Amazing, isn't it?

yesterday's horrible weather has moved on and it should be warm today. Better for my sinuses, at least.

Tommy, how did the MRI go yesterday?

Marcus, have a safe trip picking up the wheels and tires.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Morning CGs!

Sorry I have been MIA the past couple of days. We had guests in from out of town and my focus was there.

Today is RR#1s bday. The whole family went out last night to her favorite Chinese restaurant so she could have orange chicken (also her favorite). It was a nice time. She got a few gifts last night and a few more of this morning before school. She also got to ride to the restaurant in the Corvette which was a nice treat for her (and me?).

We have had more rain off and on. This needs to quit.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Morning CGs!

Cool here but the sun is out and it is a nice change. Got a car wash this morning and filled it up with gas. Prices are up again, it was $3.22 a gallon for 87.

Gris, I need some shocks for the 89 as well. I did them 10 years ago and put on KYB. They were better than the junk on there but this time around I'll go with Bilsteins.

Tommy, I'm coming up on 3 years for my dad in two weeks. Still not a day goes by that I don't think of him multiple times throughout the day.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Morning CGs!

Happy Mother's Day to the CG family wives and mothers.

Dealing with a household full of girls, but they all behave very well. Lots of giggling and whispering at lights out last night but that was the worst of it. I'll take it.

Plan on heading over to the outlaws house for dinner. My mom is coming along with BIL/SIL and her parents. One big happy family. I'm grilling some ribs and other meat selections. Always a big ol' pile of meat and sides.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Afternoon CGs!

Cool and rainy here today. We are having an early bday party for RR#1 today. A few of her girlfriends just showed up. We are taking them bowling, then they are sleeping over. All of them are good kids so should be smooth sailing.

Good Afternoon CGs!

TB, I read your novel from yesterday, you could give John a run for his money on word count

We've had more strange weather and it's messing with my sinuses.

Tool sales have been slow this week. Got a whole stash of new Snap-on stuff and no buyers. But it's cyclical. Sometimes it's dry and then sells out the next week.

Good Morning CGs!

Sorry I've been missing for a few days. Speaking of missing, where did summer go and hide? It was in the 40s yesterday. No bueno.

Marcus, congrats on the anniversary. I don't know why you need a new Tahoe. I mean, the new wheel bearing on the old one should be good for another 100k, right?

Bob, sorry to hear about the injury. Any medical treatment?

Mike, good news about the wife. I'm glad to hear it. Although there are some days I wish my wife couldn't talk....

And on that note, I hope everyone has a great day!

Good Morning CGs!

Beautiful day here with no rain. Took the dog for a walk this morning and then I had some lunch. Getting ready for a workout now. We have another first communion party to attend this afternoon. Tis the season.

Marcus, I'm glad that the issue with the Tahoe was relatively minor. And good job on the explanation of capitalism. I try to teach my kids that everyday. They still don't understand why they have to do chores...

TB, have a safe trip to visit your father-in-law. Hope he's feeling better.

Gris, hope things turn around for your family, as well.

Is Tommy back yet? I'm not sure how long the last cruise was.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Evening CGs!

Feeling pretty exhausted right now, it's been a long day. RR#2 had his first communion today. We had church in the morning and then a nice lunch afterward. Back home and time to relax.

Mike, glad to hear the wife is progressing. Hopefully the check-up goes well.

Marcus, good luck with the truck. Hopefully it's something minor.

Hope everyone has a great evening.

Good Evening CGs!

Sorry I've been absent for a few days.

Gris, we did get more rain yesterday. It cleared up a bit today. It was sunny so the grass dried up enough for me to get it cut. I'm glad because it sprinkled a little more this evening and there's more rain in the forecast. My neighbors' lawns look like crap so for once I'm the only respectable house on the block

Big day tomorrow as RR#2 has his first communion. Church at 10 and then lunch at a fancy restaurant for about 55 family and friends. Should be nice. Food is really good.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Good Evening CGs!

Rain, rain, and more rain. Miserable. Backyard is flooded. I've only seen it like this a few times in 13 years. We even have a sewer drain in the yard. Ground is saturated and the sewers are working overtime.

On a positive note it seems the caulking I did last week fixed the leak in the basement bathroom I had. I still have to fix the drywall now, but that's a low priority.

Hope everyone had a great day!

The problem you'll face is the recall is so old that they don't have the stock available anymore. You might end up with a red seatbelt in a blue interior (etc) if they can even find anything available.

I'd suggest that you take the cover off and look for obstructions that may have fallen in the mechanism and try cleaning it.

Good Morning CGs!

I'm amazed how cold it got here. In the low 30s as an overnight temp. We did get a lot of snow falling but due to the rain first coupled with warm ground temps nothing really stuck to the ground. Hopefully it warms back up quickly. It's spring, after all.

Tommy, have a safe trip.

Gris, hopefully the cap and plugs help your idle issue. But it sounds like it could be a simple dirty IAC motor and throttle body or dirty MAF. Might be worth checking out.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Rain here now, possibly snow later. No Corvette today.

Tommy, have a fun trip.

TB, let me know when the pork butt is don't smoking, I'll stop by

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Morning CGs!

I got a chance to tinker with the Corvette yesterday morning. Drained the oil and got that changed. Came out a little low. It's most likely from the dipstick tube being a little loose and then a little leak I always seem to get near the breather grommets. Got the coolant purged using the refill funnel, then later remembered I forgot to put on the new rad cap I bought (derp). No biggie, I'll do that today when it's cold.

Speaking of cold, the damn weather is turning cold again. They are saying we might get 1-2 inches of snow on Saturday if you can believe that. Just when I thought it was spring...

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Morning CGs!

Well yesterday was the big day. Got in the Corvette and she fired right up. Let her run up to temp, checked for leaks and squeaks, filled the tires, and brought her home. No surprises. Kids both already had a ride and they were tickled pink. Need to get the oil change done and change the radiator cap and fill the cooling system. After that she's good to go.

Wife was whining about the driveshaft to her car still sitting on the floor in the garage (it's ok honey, you don't have to remind me every 6 months)...so that project took precedence and I had to get that buttoned up. Took it for a test drive and no vibration, rattles, or shakes. My "budget" u-joint swap complete with welded in u-joints was a success. A lot of unnecessary hours involved (a bit of a learning curve for me) but it beat the alternative of a new $1,000 driveshaft (the driveshaft in the rogue is non-serviceable). So at least that's done.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Evening CGs!

It was a beautiful day here with warm temps and sunny skies. We planned on eating some BBQ outside at the patio table until the skies opened up and there was a good downpour. Oh well. The grass and flowers needed it.

I did manage to get the grass cut for the first time this season.

Plan on picking up the Corvette tomorrow if all goes well.

Hope everyone had a great day!

Good Morning CGs!

Happy Easter to all.

Weather is supposed to be nice today in the mid 70s. Looking forward to that.

We celebrate Easter at my wife's aunt's house every year. So we will be heading over there. The food spread is always impressive. And you know this guy loves to eat.

What kind of plans does everyone have?

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Morning CGs!

Back from the vacation and still recovering. The weather here has been a roller coaster. On Sunday (while we were gone) some areas recorded up to 8" of snow. The 50ish and sunny weather on Monday melted everything. Tuesday was a little better. Wednesday saw sunny skies with 76*. Thursday was in the 50s with rain. It is supposed to slowly creep up and be warm on Easter. All I know it the rapid climate changes are murder on my sinuses and I'm having terrible headaches.

Seems like everyone has kept busy while I was away.

Marcus, happy belated birthday.

Tommy, the brick patio looks very nice. But only you could waste a perfectly good chair by putting a statue in it

John, congrats on the book process.

TB, congrats on the haircut

Sorry if I missed any other accomplishments.

Hope everyone has a great day!

I'll stop by in the morning, Tommy. I'm sure the kids won't mind a 3 hour detour

OK...... time for some relaxation..........

Hey Marcus, ask the guys that work on those million dollar pieces of John Deere equipment what they use.... here's a hint - it starts with "snap" and ends in "on." Tell that to Tommy.

Good Afternoon CGs!

VB - hope you're feeling better by today.

John - congrats on the anniversary.

It's a beautiful day here today. It was a beautiful day yesterday, as well.

Yesterday I was walking the dog and I saw my neighbor a few doors down struggling with his car. He was trying to do some brakes. Good people that I've known for more than a dozen years. The son (doing the brakes) is an electrician and so is his father. His father wired my basement and the son did some work at my mom's house. So I asked him what the problem was - he couldn't get the caliper abutment brackets off. Most of the problem was he was using some junky hand tools and not the right ones. The bolt heads were half rounded off already. So I went home and got big red - 24" Snap-on ratchet (breaker bar) along with the correct sockets and my snap-on manual impact driver set. Took off the bracket bolts without flinching. Then the impact driver made short work of the rotor screws. The rotor was seized on from rust so I showed him how to beat it off with the sledge. Once that was done I left the tools for him to use to do the other side. He was more than impressed and super grateful for the help. Obviously that's just what you do for a friend. Snap-on to the rescue. Sometimes it pays to buy quality tools.

Getting ready for a family vacation so you guys won't hear from me for a few days.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Tommy, I'm a huge fan of the Milwaukee battery tools. I have the M12 and M18 series in various different configurations. You should check on OfferUp and Facebook Marketplace as well as eBay for some better deals. Or you can also check out CPO Outlets online.

Good Morning CGs!

Can you believe we're a week deep into April already?

Yesterday the topic was injuries....well, I've got a stubborn ol' father in law. He hurt his shoulder going on 9 months ago. Finally was hurting enough to go to the doctor and get an MRI. Torn rotator cuff. He will need surgery. He's of the mindset it's a quick surgery and back to work a week later. Doctor told him fat chance. My wife told him fat chance. I told him fat chance....I think he's finally starting to realize it. He's upset because it will impact his gardening. Funny, that caused the injury in the first place...

Stopped at Napa to get some oil and a filter for a spring oil change. It was advertised on sale but they don't make the filter for my car and wouldn't honor the price on the already lesser priced oil filter. I think that's BS. So I emailed customer service and they're opening a claim. I don't care about $3. I can buy oil anywhere. I care about customer service and doing the right thing. I'll keep you Gurus posted.

Hope everyone has a great day!
