I'm trying to flash the PCM on my 94 with the new program Mick created for me. I'd chat with him but he is unavailable tonight. So I thought I'd run this one by you gurus.

I'm using a little laptop running Windows 7 and a USB ALDL cable that is proven and has worked flawlessly in the past. I also just tested it with Datamaster and it works great with that program.

To Flash my PCM I'm using a little app by C.A.T.S. that is called WinFlash and it is made to flash the 94-95 PCMs only. It is not a tuning software, just a read/writer. The last time I used it with a different computer it worked great on the available Com Port of that computer.

The software only provides options for COM 1- 8 and none of those are avaialbe on my laptop.

I hooked up the USB ALDL cable to the ALDL port under the dash and to the laptop; using TTS Datamaster it communicates fine at COM 9. I could use that port for Flashing but its not an available option with the WinFlash
program.

How can I create another open port on the laptop, is this possible? There are few programs out there to do this anymore. Any ideas?

Hmm, I used Winflash several years ago, but it was with Windows XP. Can you just try the other available Com ports? If I remember right the fist available port didn't work with mine either.

And that is the problem... Win7 does comm port assignments differently, and the CATS program is more than likely looking for an API that isn't there anymore.

An idea - install the WinXP emulator.

I already tried every port that the program would let me try.

I just installed a driver package that is supposed to emulate ports just for ALDL but apparently its not doing its job.
However, let me pull this thread a bit more Andy because I think you are onto something.
