INTERIOR 1986 3rd brake light?
I am doing some research and am wondering if anyone has come acroos this "unicorn"? In 86 there apparently was briefly ALSO an Interior mounted Rear brake light! I remember getting into an argument back in the late 80's with a friend over the addition of the tacked on 3rd brake light we all know today and whether the bumper mount like on a convertible was better. My friend worked at a car dealer at the time(in CT) and insisted that an INTERIOR 86 brake light existed. I doubted him for quite some time until the 86 he was thinking of came in for service and sure enough after conversing with its original owner he claimed it had come from the factory with and interior mounted brake light!!! As the years passed, I have kept an eye out at car shows, carlisle, etc and have never seen another since. I'm starting to wonder if the owner was telling the truth and had instead replaced the exterior with an interior one himself to keep the original lines of the car.... |

Sounds more like a custom mod? I'd like to see a picture, though, it's an interesting idea.

I don't see the practical benefit of an "interior" brake light.
Was it red and projected out? The 86-90 (and all ZR1s) had their CHMSL placed on the hoop - verts had in the rear bumper. It sounds to me like an urban legend. |
