Under the dash on the driver's side is the connector to hook up and read the information on your car. You put a paper clip in A & B, which in my case is on the upper row and the 2 holes at the far right. You turn the key on after inserting the paper clip (don't crank it) and the "Service engine soon" light will start flashing. The first flash is 1 time and the 2nd 2 times to indicate code 12. It does this 3 times then it will flash other codes. When it is done flashing codes it will flash a 12 3 more times to let you know it is done.

You cross reference these codes in your FSM and it will tell you what is not functioning properly. I am assuming you read my earlier post. I was not able to get any codes.

The paper clip is used to jump points A and B on the ALDL - Assembly Line Diagnostic Link - to read the codes on the ECU - Engine Control Unit. The connector is by your right knee, on the drivers side. Right next to the transmission tunnel...

The quick tip:

1. Insert the paper clip accordingly (the Helm or Haynes should direct you).

2. Turn on the key and start watching for flashing lights on the Service Engine Soon. The first code should be a 12 - <flash> short pause <flash> <flash>. That will repeat 5 times.

3. Then comes the code itself. For a code 32, for example, it will be <flash> <flash> <flash> short pause <flash> <flash> long pause, repeat. This will happen 3 times. The next code would show if present.

That's about it, really. If the SES doesn't light, then you have an issue with the bulb.
