its not about my corvette. I have a 2002 saturn SL or somthing like that. Check engine light came on and it gave me a reading about the thermostat. The light is off now but the temp gauge seems likes its all off wake. If the car is siting for 1 hour and i turn the car on it says it is already at normal runing temp. 30seconds of driving it is about 1/2 inch away from the red zone. Turn the heater on and it drops down really fast. do i need a new thermostat?

hard to say for sure, but I would say it's possible. Especially if it's OEM. I would also flush out the coolant and make sure the radiator is clear.

However, my better guess is that you take the car to Autozone and let them pull the codes. I am betting it's a bad temp sensor.
