Hope someone can help...
Just bought a 1990 Corvette L98 six-speed from the orig. owner with 48,000 miles. What a find! I'm new to these cars and I think I disabled the car by accident. I activated the alarm by reaching into the car and unlocking the door. When opening the door the alarm went off. At that moment, I didn't know the procedure to disarm so I disconnected the battery. The alarm is reset and functioning properly now but when I try to start the car, it runs for a second or two then shuts down as if there's no fuel. Any ideas? Thanks |

Nothing wrong with the alarm or VATS if it starts!
I always like to start simple, check the fuses. |

If VATS were the issue, the car wouldn't even crank.
If it starts for a few seconds, then it seems as if the fuel pump is at least priming the system. You need to do a diagnostic check as to why you are not getting one of the three necessary things: fuel, spark, air. Matthew |

Hi,
Thanks for your note back. I spoke to a tech at a local dealer and he says that since I disconnected the battery during the alarm going off, the computer is not allowing the fuel pump to run (car thinks it's being stolen, similar to when starting with a key that has none or the wrong resistor in it). I've checked all fuses and found none burned. Of course, they recommend having it towed and running diagnostics. What do you think? |

First thing I would do is turn on the ignition without trying to start it - if you hear the fuel pump energize - for about 2 seconds (you will hear it if it's running) then you know it's not being disabled.
Is the security light on the dashboard flashing while the doors are closed? If it is, use the door key to turn the lock cylinder locked and open and that should reset it. But I don't think it's your VATS, since that disables the starter. Matthew |

BTW - I would never take my car to the local chevy dealer. The majority (not all, of course) have never even seen a C4 in the bay, let alone know how to work on them. If you are serious about having a shop do the work, find a competent shop that works on corvettes.
