CSS996 Battery Tender Question

Hey Gurus!

Last week I purchased a battery maintainer from Wal-Mart. It came with this little guy...

Resized Image

I read the entire instruction sheet, and it was pretty much all safety warnings, and no photos.

Can I install this little tail directly onto my battery and leave it there? The charger has the female version of the black connector on the other end. It came with the connector in the picture, and another connector that has standard alligator-type clips on the ends.

Seems like the item pictured is meant to be connected to the battery posts and left on the car, but wanted to make sure that was the case. And if so, should I try to find/create some kind of cap to keep water and debris out of the connector?

Thanks!

Yes, that pigtail is meant to be connected to the battery and left there. Makes connecting and disconnecting the battery tender super easy.

Connector holes are too small. So I'm in the hunt for larger ones. Stinkin' thing...

They were probably made for a motorcycle battery. That pigtail looks exactly like the one on my Harley. I am sure you can get some type of adapter to use with larger auto batteries. Maybe check with a stereo installer shop?

Got one just like it. Ive been using it for a year. If you will take some side cutters and cut the round part in one place then spread it a little it will go over the bolt. That is what I did and have had no problems. If you will stick the pigtail out thru the side louvers you can connect and disconnect with out opening the hood. Just tuck it in the louver when disconnected.

Great tips, Greg! I will give that a shot.

Yeah, RollaMo, I was going to ask how that bike was treating you. Hopefully running as great as it looks!
