My Tach stopped working this morning. Would that be my tach filter ? If so where is it and is it easy to replace, I have looked in Eckler's catalog but it only has two for 84-89 and one for 92-93. So which you do I get ?

I wonder if 1991 had one? That link that Joel posted shows the same years that Eckler shows.

I know the 1992 did...

It's a capacitor that cleans up the square wave off the coil.

Ultimately, the data to the tach is coming from the CCM via the ECM.

I would have to suggest you hit the Helm Manual for 1991 and do what they suggest.

My desktop is off... so I can't reach out to my parts fiche...

I know my '89 had a tach filter, not sure about the '91 though. It was on the firewall, kind of behind the driver's side head. Looks like a little cylinder shaped black barrel with 1 wire in and 1 wire out.

I had to remove it after I installed a Crane Hi-6 ignition box because the tach was doing some screwy things. Once I removed it all was fine. Not sure if you need with the stock ignition or if you could just bypass it, I would think one is needed or it wouldn't have been put there in the first place. They aren't very expensive, probably the first thing to try if you can't figure out what is wrong before starting the part replacement procedure.

FWIW, when one of the wires broke off the tach filter of my '84, I simply bypassed the filter. The tach worked fine before and after.

RACE ON!!!
