yeah the GMPP vortec heads from summit racing are listed at $4xx each now and when i bought them years ago they were under 500 for the pair already set for a .550 lift cam.

thanks for the move. i'll be hitting the post office tomorrow hoping the new head unit is there. i'm hoping it is something that can work, because i am going insane without radio and find myself taking the grand prix just so i have something to listen to(besides the turbo spooling in that car sounds cool too).

the olds unit is not a bose, just a base model CD/cassette unit. my biggest thing is wanting to keep GM parts in it, because i've never seen a 90-96 dash look right to me with an aftermarket head unit.

here is the picture of it:

Hey, we're practically neighbors. I was out there last weekend.

yeah we should do something this summer.

the cutty vert was beat down hard. once upon a time it was a beautiful car, but that was when i saw it 4 years ago. so i'm passing. i just wanted to toss in a new motor and flip it if it was still mint, and used the profit to make the vette about $2,000 faster.

on a positive note i've got a new set of FMS yellow top injectors sitting here on the desk for the TGP.

i second that, the stock gauge cluster is no way to accurately check the oil pressure, temperature, or anythign else.

what special needs done to replace the bose system in my 91?

i have sourced a 2 din oldsmobile cd/cass head unit with wiring plug from an 01. i know i need to replace the speakers, they all blew up one by one anyway, but will the other GM radio plug in or do i need to rewire and run new speaker wires?

i'm heading to pick up an acrylic top in unbroken "5 foot" condition tomorrow. for $135

deal of the year or no? my car is a 10 footer so a top that looks good up close and great at 5 feet works damn well for me!

drop the 50 and cruise it as is(with a grille and bumpers of course)

or do like i did with my 54 and make a total sleeper out of it. 4 doors are fun to waste everyone else with especially when their jaws drop to the ground.

LT1 intake on L98 - my thoughts

i just got my LT1 intake last night and today i mocked up a gen1 block/heads to look things over some.

here is my biggest thought:

why all the mods to the intake?

with the exception of the 4 outermost bolt holes being on the wrong angle and needing fixed, what says not to just drill/tap the inner 8 bolt holes into the heads as opposed to grinding all over the intake? it would not leave you with unusable heads if you wanted to go to a typically patterned intake down the road because the new holes would just get covered up with gasket. with that said i'm sure i will modify the intake as opposed to the heads when the time comes, but it looks like an easier way to get it bolted on.

so i picked up a B body intake/rails which i understand are the proper rails for a c4 L98 swap retaining the large cap distributor. even to pay someone to do the modifications to the bolt pattern if you can't do it and doing the rest yourself is a hell of alot cheaper than buying a miniram.

absolut = rubbing alcohol.

if you can find it try Kapitanska vodka. it's a Poland produced grain vodka that is damn near as smooth as grey goose at 1/3 the price. i bring home a bottle every time i go to chicago

i'll be in your neck of the woods this weekend but dare not drive the vette to chicago and park it on the streets surrounding logan square for 3 nights.

after work i put my new black A-mold's on and got the car out of hibernation. i was out for a couple hours and saw 5 or 6 others. no waves from any(all with the opportunity were c5/c6) but i did have a 74/75 convertible play catch up from behind to check mine out and i had a late model camaro SS throwing revs at me.

currently it's almost as quick as the 91 vette in the quarter if you don't count the fact that the tranny is blown right now. it has an auto and i'm swapping in a 5 speed manual with a spec clutch and a bunch of new parts to go along with it and will hit the track in the spring. i always debate whether to go with a bigger turbo and intercooler or just leave those parts stock and see how far they can go on tuning and supporting mods alone.

i must be a tad behind the times, but i figured i could just open up a catalog or grab the GM part # for my uncle at the dealer and order up a pair of rear grand sport fender flares. what gives? i can understand GM discontinuing after 11 years, but neither mid america or ecklers has them. of course mid america claims to have left ones @$159 each and "find a right one to make a complete set" in the text of the ad.

are they out there? ebay showed ONE pair - from a place asking $299 PER SIDE.

i'd love to put them on and hide a tad of the 315's that i'm putting on, already ordered my 17x11 rears.

1991 L98 - Delete my AIR injection system

i'm tracking down a no-idle condition on my 91. suspect the IAC and popped the hood 5 minutes ago.

I've come to the realization that i want/need to delete my AIR injection system for the following reasons:

1: the lifetime smog pump from the parts store loses the bearing at least once a year, and while free to replace, is a PITA since i'd rather be driving than working on the car.

2: i was looking to take out the IAC and this big AIR injection deal is right in the way of getting a socket on it, and it's just plain ugly.

3: hoses on said black deal in IAC's way are a tad beat

4: reaching down tracing one of them that heads down under the manifold, it's broken off.

5: i'm willing to bet i can pass e-check without it since we do not do visual and i pass with every other GM small block EFI that i remove it from.

so who makes a delete pulley for the pump itself, what size caps and plugs will i need for things, and where are the fittings located that need removed? i'm sure i'll find those easily while just tracing lines/hoses but i'd like to have the proper size caps and or plugs before starting the job and so i do not have to guess.

thanks!

found my way here trying to find old friends from back in the day.

just traded cars with my dad and now have his 91 corvette, which is stuck in the garage hibernating for a few more weeks. gave him my nice 91 caprice wagon for it(new 350, new 700r4, impala SS 17's and grille, leather interior).

crappy hibernation shot:

there are other toys, i'm building a 1940 chevy pickup on a late model S10 chassis with an independent rear suspension and a 2001 LS1/4L60-E.
