starting w/that set-up if they were willing to go up to 11:1 I figure about 30hp. gain. 20 min. if just going to 10.5:1. I think the 215 pro 1 is a bit small for that combo and it could have also used more cylinder head.
The overall number does seem low, I would have expected at least 560-575. Scott S.and schmidt's crate 434's w/about same cam, 220 head is near 595.

no not stupid, the coat was first on the shaft only and I masked off the yolks. Then I brought them over to dyno tech for balancing. All shafts were high speed balanced (spun to 7k).

thanks, no, wish I did but at the time it was completed and shipped to me I didn't want to tear it down just to coat it. However I did everything else, c, beam, d. shaft t.pan oil pan etc. all were coated

OK, stupid question....honest question however....
You're saying the weight of the stainless is less than the Chrome Molly I have? By how much and what is that worth 5HP? I can't find a spec that they are lighter than the chro mo I have, Comp doesn't say that, summit doesn't say that. Not so sure they are. In fact, the chro mo are more expensive and I believe lighter than stainless. So +5 if that's the case?
As far as the 1.7, why would that make a difference? The overall lift is still .558. I'm running .602 with smaller rockers. I am not sure how you think the 1.7s make much difference on that cam.
Then, we have to look at the cam profile, no? The 1.7 will ramp the cam sooner given it's the same profile and ramp on each cam. Right? Without knowing the profile and ramp for each, it would be impossible to conclude, no?
What we do know is that I have overall more lift and more overall duration, despite the 1.7s on this motor. Therefore we can conclude that my cam ramps faster, we just don't know by how much.

when comp first released that rocker it there statement regarding less recipricating weight and strength, however, as I said, IMO, it would not be weight that would effect/increase your perfromance but the change in ratio (you stated "how much is this going to cost me").
http://www.compcams.com/information/P ... rArms/HiTechStainless.asp
The zzx is .558 gross lift w/a 1.5:1, using the 1.7:1 raises the lift to .632.
On your motor if the cam you have was rated at .602 w/a 1.5, changing to the 1.6:1 puts it at .642.lift., using a 1.7 would put it at .682 lift.
Again if yours started at .602 lift rated w/a 1.6 the change to a 1.7:1 would bring it to .640....altering ratio, not weight would be the gain.
Quote:

People would post something like this motor and insist it would make more power than another, more robust, setup, like mine in this example.I don't get it or see how you come to the conclusion. I'm not even saying you're wrong, on paper it doesn't add up.

first off, let me be clear, I am talking about ratio changes on any motor. I am not coming to any conclusions, comparisons or the like....on their motor, mine or yours....don't even try it.

Easy low 11's in a C4 with that motor, and even into the 10's. It is an interesting combination.... I've seen the ZZX cam on several different builds and was seriously considering early in my build, but passed on it.

No there's nothing wrong with the tq. I look at various feature builds and feel most like seeing hp. They also stated they did 3 pulls, so it appears they didn't go too hog nuts tuning. What software are you using to do et.calculations ?
The zzx seems to produce good results, but after valve lash it's probably down to 235ish. I'm becoming more of a believer that at that point in hr.'s, the 242/242 solid becomes a good choice.

It was from the magazine (editors?), of Street Thunder:

"After choosing the necessary components
for our project 396 LT1, we worked with
TPIS/Cottrell Racing Engines to assemble,
dyno, and tune the engine. Combining
our research and TPIS’ LT1 experience
was sure to produce exceptional results"

"We didn’t use the most expensive
parts to achieve the highest power
figures; instead, we built a high performance
engine that walks the line between
street and race, but thatwould be at home
under the hood of most any street machine,
whether an early street rod or a latemodel
sports car. Not only that, but our
LT1 creation should easily achieve over 20
mpg on the highway in our six-speed
equipped ’85Camaro!That’s hard to beat."

understandable............in the day when I was at the track everyweek and was serious about this stuff, no-one (aside from chrysler R&D)had a dyno...so it didn't matter. This time around the dyno pulls were part of a total deal that I struck....it was nice, but for me it's a source of reference for the rest of car.
Never-the-less, I would rather use a chasis dyno for c.loop tuning (if I had the chance as opposed to my drive pull over and tweak method). I'll bet I could get a tune done way faster being able to hold it any rpm/load and tweak than my current method.

Likewise, so.....what have I missed, where are you w/yours ? tune going well w/greg ? etc....guessin' the weather there has got you parked as well

I should do the About 600 Club proud...
Course I didn't spring for the stainless rockers, wonder what that's gonna cost me.

the ss rockers are around 400.-500. now, they were more when they first came out. Difference in comparison to yours is not only weight but the increase to a 1.7 ratio.

As to your "about 600 club" I have no idea what that's all about. But, your motor should have more 550chp (I have reservations being over 600 though), but since you aren't a fan of dyno's, I guess you/we will never know.

Are those the street ports are the comp ports? Not sure if AFR only makes comp ports for LTx. Thanks!

my money is on them using the comps....trying to get an HP number, and no mention of the afr, which makes me think leaned (13.50:1+)and then yeiding a slightly lowered tq. TPIS didn't pick the parts, Jim told me his choices would have probably started w/the 210 head and the rest being somewhat different. Still, a very good motor though

regard to who built my intake unit originally, I prefer not to publicly post that up, as he is usually lurking (actually people call him by that name) in the background. The intake is definitely either a JB "knockoff", or a knockoff of someone else's work that JB copies as well. I do not know.

I remember whom you speak of, and the stand off between him and JB......as well as his claim to be the first and doing them for a number of years.
Glad you posted, what it was upon purchase.

that sux on the c.fiber v.covers.
Sheet metal v,covers are inexpensive nowadays. Places like speedway sell imported ones that are machine welded, 1/4" billet plate, polished out, and in various styles (including the moroso, or canton style) for 100. or less. They are straight, sit flat, look great and are actually an excellant product.

I guess his 3 past Super Bowl titles don't count? Dissing Brady because of one less than stellar game is a bit harsh, don't you think?[/quote]
It has nothing to do with his ability, it is his unability to give credit where credit is due (poor sportsmanship). He should have recognized the ability that the Giants defense delivered in that game, and that the pats as a team did not or could not rise to the challange (he came off like sour grapes).

I think any true professional in competitive events should possess an amount of humility and recognize that anything can happen and that anything is possible, regardless if it is due to injury or just lack of stellar performance.

The medias aggressiveness trying to make him the next QB w/4 bowls and his response in interviews prior to the game, he 'seemingly' acted as if it was a a given, this lack of humbleness to the unknown, the lack of hunger, and combine this with all the media regarding him as "the perfect this and perfect that" came back to haunt him......who knows maybe gesele was on his mind

The media hype of Brady being in the same league as T. Bradshaw and J. Montana .....those guys knew how to deliver the goods in those situations. The Giants did good !!

Cool. Is there a point to 1440P outside of huge screens? doesn't seem practical at home.
I'm in no position to upgrade at this point, as it makes no sense, but it's nice to know.

I hear you, upgrading at this point should wait if you have a good system. Currently 1440P is in theory as the potential is there, and maybe a option in the future in flatpanels.
I believe this may already exist in the lab, but since sony through its, motion pic. co. and players , panels etc (and the co. that makes them for sony and samsung). won't release something like that until they make back the money from BR compatible 1080p products.
1080P will be around for awhile there are many areas in the hardware that can't quite keep up perfectly yet (smearing, pixualation, line distortion in very fast scenes) not to mention that all the LCD flatties don't use the highest grade panel available ,(mura effect, bad pixels etc.).

Resolution can improve , Pioneers newest elite shown at CES, has a resolution of infinity, 9mm screen, and produces 80%more black at idle. Now that is a nice flattie.....so is the ticket lol. But again, setting all of these up is where it's at and ambient light kills any thing set up to 6500 kalvin, room needs to be dedicated at that point , which is why so many like LCD screens.

The AUDIO bandwidth is higher on HDMI? I get DTS and the rest on fiber on both my Denons. even 6.1.

If I were buying a receiver I'd definitely get the HDMI 1.3 switching. However, in his case MONEY was the issue, in which case I would have gone to MONOPRICE and for $5 got fiber cables.

There are many DTS sources, DTS HD, DTS DIGI, DTS DIGITAL H.RES., DTS MA which need the HDMI from source to processor (all with BRD). Normal DTS ES/ MATRIX, 96/24, neo, will work fine w/opti.from source to processor. The opti on these decks won't process the lossless type HD audio available.

YES, the DTS MA i(master audio) uses more bandwidth, the bandwidth available on an HDMI supports audio and video. HDMI cables have a bandwidth available beyond what is currently availble for both audio and video, the total video bandwidth is 1440p and I don't remember the audio currently.

The problem with all of this stuff is what mfg.s print in their spec. can be mis- leading, product upgrading , and the mfgs to have new product release bi-yearly (legally). Much that is being released is in need of firmware upgrades, and have glitches etc.
Yes I agree money becomes an issue, and the poster is working within a budget. The latest and greatest gets the big tag. It is worse if you spend 500. now and realise that later you would have liked the additonal options, because you have upgraded other areas of your home system. The DTS MA tracks really rock on BRD's. When I bought mine there were only a couple that had this , but pioneer already had the decoders, now most BRD have MA tracks.

However, overall at least the prices have gone down since the first panny 40" at 10K.

Other than the extra wire, what's the big deal about running audio over fiber? It's just as clean? I don't see spending 100s more for that feature today....

if your using a regular dvd or up vert ... none, I originally ran my set-up that way before going to a good BRP.
Bandwidth on an HDMI icable is larger than any other digital cable.
With a BRDP like the 95 elite or the panny, you won't be able to use all the audio options (DTS MA etc.). It will depend on what the original disc BR has available most newer are at least 6.1 DTS HD, and Master Audio being the better of the audio availabilities.
Of course the AV deck needs to be able to decode the DTS options (all "lossless" digital does not sound the same).

lots of real info here:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/

the pioneer 94 lists at 1600, got it for 1065.
When I was looking I could not find anything that was able to actually use the HDMI the way it is supposed to be used (audio and video) through an AV properly for less than 1k. All other decks were all passthrough, video no audio the 1508 denon is a passthrough. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.j ... 77112416170#productdetail
1908 supposedly does: (last review)

my choice was the pioneer elite 94 for an AV reciever, this reciver processes all capabilities available on a BR disc, especially combined w/the pioneer elite 95 BRDP . The 94 av deck will process all of the hd audio including HD-MA, (all DTS available) etc. and 1080p x25fps., 1.3 firmware, and all true 6-7 channel sources using an HDMI cable, etc.etc.. The elitle 95, and the panny are the only 2 BRDP that have the 1.3 firmware and codecs/processing for all DTS audio and 1080p/24, and 60 fps.
There are even better decks that start at around 3500.00 (yamaha 90X (think model number is right), 11.2 channel, 220 rms per channel etc.etc.) but the pioneer elite 94 av deck can be had for right around 1k.
The 1017 pioneer is a good passthrough goes for about 400.00 the spec. that deck is very hard to beat. built in 5 band eq, processes most DTS, and is capable of 6-7 channel (depending on source) at 110.watts rms.
Most recievers are strictly pass through, and some will actually degrade the signal as it cannot process the signal properly from an HDMI cable, hence the need for most to have an opti for audio. At that point your only gain will be able to put everything on one remote. Spec. sheets from AV. reciever MFG.'s really need to be scrutinised carefully. The ps-3 does not process HD-MA (br-audio) and currently the pioneer and panny are the only ones, combined w/7channel 1.3 frimware, etc.etc..

cheaper and older pasma's have a short lamp life (some as short as 5000 hrs.)and replacing the lamp can cost as much as the set.
I own a 52" sony XBR3 , if I were to buy a plasma ,the Pioneer Elite is the one to have.

on a prompt from a friend, (Ron) I thought I would just throw up a couple of pics, some small info stuff.......next thing I know I've got people emailing me from around the world, and having to tell some; "how could they post sites w/info and they never even saw the car "(or old enough no less), acting like they know everything, and let alone did not own it!!....I know we are all aware of regurgatation on boards, this is at a new height.

There was a thread where someone asked for some help. Someone else referred the C4Guru forum. Then a question was asked, "Is that the one Bogus runs." I answered yes and next thing you know the thread is gone. I have seen a few threads disappear when there is a reference to this forum..

This is the area in which I feel becomes a personal issue and not in the interest of someone becoming more educated in various aspects of these cars.
As many might be aware 3rd gen., is perhaps the most comprehensive articles regarding ECM/TUNING tech. Using this as a reference for those interested in learning (as reiteration is usually way to long to post) was/is acceptable on "that" board, and never put anyones panties in a bunch. However, mentioning another board who someone/mods doesn't like, is then a problem ?....
The premise of rule enforcing, including rule siting becomes suspect if in fact the action demonstrates a subjective viewpoint or non-equal application/enforecment of the stated rule/s. Categorizing a statement/post does not always work, as it may only be an attempt from someone to help with no malice intended. MO
