An opinion from a newbie! I think you have done a great job on the upgrade here. You didn't go overboard and make it look like the other place, yes I have found out about it, and didn't care much about it either... the other site. I frequent (sp) a few boating forums cause that is something I have been into for a long time. Classic boats, or the older hotrods !!!! YES!!! There is one boat forum, that reminds me bigtime of the other place, too fricking much drama!!!! I like the way you all keep this site mellow and basically down to earth, with a lot of good info and help. Don't get me wrong, I like to see the booobies and all, and I will keep coming back for more! Long winded here I know, but just was letting ya all know what I thought about this site. The vette I bought from my buddy is my project car, the one that gets me the hell outta the house and into the garage....I do have a wife and a 16 year old daughter, so I is basically trapped like a rat!!! LOL Mark

I is one helluva happy camper. Put the new 02 sensor in and she be running good, and no check engine light. Mustve been the bad running engine, like ya said Andy,, that tweaked the sensor. YEEEEHAAAAAAAA

I was thinking the same thing, about the tune, and how it was running before that. I am going to replace the sensor regardless seeing that they are pretty cheap.

Thanks alot guys! OZ, that link you put up was cool, had all the codes, and what could be wrong, and where the sensor was. Also told about how not to assume that it is the sensor might be something else, like CC said. Got home and was looking for the sensor, (found it lol) and it looked like new. WTF! I looked thru the paperwork my buddy gave me with the car, and the 02 sensor was replaced in May of this year, the workorder stating the car was running rich. I dont know what brand sensor was put in, so Andy why is the Bosch brand no bueno? And could his be the prob?, or is CC on the right track, that it is something else. I am wondering about the fuel pump, I see there is a block off plate, on the block. So I am assuming it has electric? Thanks again guys, sorry for all the questions, but I am learning the chebbie stuff!!!

cool thanks, how many does this car have? I have a 99 Expedition and it has 3 of em. Took it in when the ck engine lite came on, and the fricking shiesters wanted to change all 3 of em. I said hell no and checked things out myself and found 2 bigtime vacumn leaks. Did the battery dealio, and the lite never came back on. A little more info on this car: I did a tune up, like I said earlier. 2 spark plug wires were shot, and about 3 or 4 plugs smelled of gas pretty good. The buddy I got it from just told me that he had to change the intake gaskets, and screwed up on the throttle linkages. So I guess it was sucking fuel bigtime. I know that after the tune up and all I am not smelling the gas fumes like I was before, when I am starting it up in the garage. And NO I am not a dumbass starting it with the door closed LOL So 1. how many? 2. should I try to reset the computer? 3. just buy what I am going to need? Sorry so long winded, I am learning. Thanks Mark

Hey gurus, been working on my 84. Did a complete tune up, water pump, fixed some wires, and she runs fine with no misses. I shut her off and then restart her, runs fine, and then after about a minute or so, the idle starts to go down and then the check engine light comes on and then the idle comes back up. Tried this, the off and on about 4 times with the same results. I do say HER cause she is a picky bitch, no offense to anyone! Any ideas where I might be having a problem? TIA for any clues Mark

Thats what I used to find a water leak I had. Couldnt figure out where it was coming from. With the pressure tester, and the engine being cool, I could stick my hands everywhere to find the leak. Ended up being the metal plate on the back of the water pump that sprung a little hole in it.

I too am glad I found this site. I am definately a newbie here, and have had some questions answered here also. I am also a newbie to owning a vette also, been around them alot, but never an owner till now. Took one off my buddys hands, and he still has his 66. Tried to get that one but, HELL NO, no getting that one. I look forward to keep picking your guys brains for the questions I have, cause the C4 I do have needs a bit of work. My screen name is a reflection of my usual doing, which is boating, I have a classic, 76 Jetboat, so don't hold it against me guys!!!! I am looking forward to hopefully being a part of the gang here and maybe throwing my .02 in here and there. I have done a lot of machine work with my bud Dave at A&D engines, in La Habra, CA. And in no way is this an advertisement! Sure the hell looks like it tho huh???? Sorry guys

Mark

Ya I do have the 2 manuals, and no they dont say squat about the heater core. Bogus why do you ask about the AC? On this car it's all there, and I was thinking just a recharge. Doesn't look like it's leaking anywhere. Thanks for the info guys, and looks like I will give the route of not taking the dash off and see what happens. Mark

Just finished changing out a water pump and radiator hoses, and am getting ready to do the heater core. Any of you guys do one on a 1984. Is there something on here, or another place, or etc etc ?? That might give me a little bit of how to, or should I just dig in and go for it? TIA for any info Mark

EDIT - I updated the title. It reflects the reality that 1984-89 dashes are the same and the procedures here should be 98% the same for all years included. - bogus

Thanks for the welcomes and compliments ! The boat is a 76 nordic that I have fixed up, hence my screen name. Didnt know what to use seeing as I am new to the Vette scene, and it is a screen name that I use on a few jetboat forums. Thanks also for the heads up on getting it painted. I was thinking it would cost me a helluva lot more, so now maybe the first part of the year it just might get done, if things go right. Don't know if I should put it here or start a new thread, but I just finished putting a water pump and all new hoses on. I ordered a heater control valve and a heater core, seeing as the valve was rotted away, and the core was bypassed. Got a good deal thru vette2vette, another lead I got from here. So I am getting ready to do the heater core this weekend. Anyone here done one in an 84, or is there a how to here? TIA for any info. Mark Just finished on the water pump delio, what a pain in the arse, that was. NO leaks, Yehahhhh. And also noticed I was a little off on the mileage, it has 179K on her, and was idling at 800 with 63 psi oil pressure.

The body is straight.Never been hit. And I am learning about the interior, which is what needs the most work. It needed the headliner which i posted about earlier, and ended up buying one for about 140, killer deal I thought. The drivers seat is toast, the pass seat is perfect. Just put covers over them temp. The drivers door handle was broke and replaced it along with the door lock, and the rubber wipes inside and out. The door panel itself was just about broke in 2 with a crack up the middle. Used a plastic welder, and is just like new and strong as hell.I also put the door insulators in also. Needs a carpet kit, but for now a good vacumn and a few cans of interior paint and it will be close to good. The dash is in perfect shape. same with the console. It's definately a project for me, but at the same time I have to be somewhat conservative with the cash also. In time it WILL be done and done right

That hasn't posted a pic yet. It's a 84 that needs a bit of work. Not the greatest pic as of yet, but it does have the ground effects kit on it, runs decent for having over 150 k miles on it. Will post more pics again, and let ya all know what work I have done and what it needs. I picked it up for 2k, So I think I got a decent deal

Thank you bogus!!! I got it. Works out great for me, cause when I got this project, it needed spark plug wires bad. Thot I would put plugs in it also. I checked the cap, and thot nah, it's got some more miles left on it, which I know isn't right. But the money situation, well any way. Thanks again, it found a good home!! Mark

I saw mention of this in another thread, and had some questions about it. I am doing a water pump on my 84 project, and of course have half the crap on the front of the engine off. The questions I have are, does this kit help with performance? Is this kit Cali legal? and if so where might one pick one up? Thanks for any info Mark

Kay - I would consider the air pump bypass kit... it will help you pick up about 5hp by removing the drag.

Also, have you done anything to the intake itself? It responds very nicely if you hog out the extra metal in the ports... it's like this... the intake ports are about half the size of the ports in the head... this means a little grinding and you have opened up a bucket load of free hp.

Sorry for the thread jack, but curious about the bypass kit, is that something that is legal in Cali? And about the intake cleaning out, has anyone done a thread on that, or a place to look that up?

Kay very nice 84, hope to get my project looking as nice

Update.... I ended up finding one at corvette central, and after thinking about it a bit, I ended up buying it. Cost me around 140.00 bucks. But what I got I thought was pretty cool. It was a hard plastic, that was molded to the shape of the top, and cut perfectly to fit snug, and covered with the material. Hell it even had the velcro strips on the back. So in the future, I guess I have the foundation to work with if I need to replace the material. Thanks guys for all your suggestions !!!!!!!!

Just was wondering what any of you guys may have done for your headliner or not. Mine is completly gone, the only thing on the top is velcro strips. I have seen here and there, where the top was redone with the material and glue pretty cheaply, but they had a base to work with, so it seems. Thanks for any info you have Mark

Hi all, newbie here with a question. I have a new to me 1984 Vette. I had the steering wheel off and also the locking plate, to do some repair work. I couldnt get the locking plate back on without the tool, so I went and bought one. My question is how the hell do ya get the tool to work, when I have a telescoping column and the top shaft keeps pulling out? How do I lock that top shaft to get the snap ring in? Thanks for any info Mark
