The other jeep that caught on fire was the same year as this one.His new motor should be in any day. What you see is what he likes . The green things are 4.2 pistons painted green. You got to admit he is having fun. Lol.

I taught him nothing.

You know I have visited their sight and did not know what all they can do for you. For me like my son it is still the cheep junkyard dog in me. Is there anything that they do that could benefit me in the future. I only glanced at their site. Being that they are one of our sponcers can you tell me a little about what they can do for the C4 people?

Steve

Thanks Andy

When I replaced mine an 87 it acted like it had a short. I found a guy that rebuilds and sell them for about $275. He told me that it is usually a worn out power supply that showes the ground problem.. He sends you a rebuilt one and after you send your old one to him he refunds your deposit. The one I have now is over a year old with no problems. If you have overdrive you need to send him the numbers on the back of the cluster to get the correct one. You have to have the correct cluster unit or your overdrive will not work.

Good luck

Your current rear tire is: 275/40/19

To derive overall nominal height:

1. 275 x 40% = 110mm
2. 110mm / 25.4mm (1 inch) = 4.3"
3. 4.3" + 4.3" + 19" = 27.6"

This works out to an overall nominal height of 27.6"

Now, for the stock 255/50/16:

1. 255 x 50% = 127.5mm
2. 127.5mm / 25.4mm (1 inch) = 5"
3. 5" + 5" + 16" = 26"

Well you already have a speedo error - 1.6" is rather significant. At 60mph, you are off by 4 mph slow! 60 really means you are doing 64.

So don't let the ratios worry you. I would stick with the .64 OD. If you want to correct the speedo error, there are other ways to do it. The .64 will help of you decide to go nuts with gearing down the road.

Andy did the math for me . I off about 4 mph. A lot better than my F150. I enjoy the fact I can drive from Bakersfield to Pismo Beach, stay for a couple day, and then drive back on a on one tank.

Cool

I was raised with 3 sisters and no brothers. Vetteblondie opinion is how I was raised.
I love the job I have but, some of the parents (legal) have the same feelings. When I receive the papers from S.S. for me to sigh to prove their children are in school it bothers me when some of these familys have 6-8 kids. These parent are part of the system that has failed. They grow up with the knowledge of how to beat the system. Like most goverment programs we make free money and housing easy for them.

As my departed mother would say if goverment is messed up vote them out and find someone that will do the job. Get rid of the good old boys.

My son has alreay rolled several jeeps at the Beach, out in Desert and down the sreet from my house. We just took care of the death wobble on the front.
He doesn't need to read this Lol.

I know people like him... can't let them near anything of value or they will destroy it. No sense of compassion for mechanical devices.
All I know is this: When my Jeep 4.0 dies, I am getting a Golan 4.6 stroker. 270hp, 320 lb-ft of torque!!

This morning he is helping a friend move. His friend is giving him some car that needs a cat so it can pass smog.
I think tomorrow we're pulling the motor again.

I am hiding in my classroom today. LOL

So does that mean they work simular to a crank sensor. In that they pick up the signal in the same method.

He is a junk yard nut like I used to be. That is why I bought the Autozone crate engine for him. I have the money to buy new parts now that he and his sister moved out.(life of a single parent)!

The 4.0 is a strong dependable engine I agree. Every time he drops the engine he destroyd the crank position wires. He is ADHD and it is hard to get him to slow down.

It makes no difference what he drives he destroy everything he touches. One day he will have to grow up and buy a Corvette.

I agree with you. You get what you pay for. Well at least I know what I will be doing when my new transmisson gets here. Helping him with the Jeep while he is busy with the new baby.
He is one of those crazy rock climbers and uses the same vehicle for work. So far he has't abused this motor yet. First time it's not his fault.
When I bought my 87 vett he drove it around the block and came back with the clutch smoking.
No braines. Baby due this month. 23 yr old

In May my son's jeep motor died. We tried several used motors waisting money and time. We bought a lot of parts for the other 4.0 motors. We even built a stroker out of a 4.2 and a 4.0. After the last engine failure while at Autozone I asked what a replacement motor would cost. $1400 so I order one . It arrived in 4 days.
My son called a few minutes ago describing an engine problem. The sound like when you are losing a bearing. I told him to call the store. They had a tech call him on the phone. The tech had him run the engine pulling 1 plug at a time to see if the sound stopped. It did not. The tech called the store and had them order a new motor for my son.

The motor is ordered and he is pulling the other one.

Warrenty 3 years unlimited miles.

As suggested there may be other swtiches from this company that list your models use in other vehicles.

No not yet, i checked the fuses and their all good,
My suspect is the the on/off switch on the lever becuase when i turned it
Off last time it worked it came out a bit and since then everytime i turn it on i dont hear the click that the solenoids make, but to tell you the truth i have no idea how i can test the switch on the steering column lever.

Well so far this has been a good place to find the answers. I don't have that problem yet, but it would be nice to know before it happens to me.

Hard to tell on my '91. The contact side of the bolsters are leather for sure. The quality of modern vinyl is so good. One of these days I'm going to take a drive to MAM and inspect their vinyl seat covers firsthand.

Grizz, if your driver seat is showing some wear, you can always swap them, that's what I did.

Another data point, I'm picking up a highly bolstered seat, almost like the Corvette seat from my upholsterer later on today. The leather had become too worn and ripped at the bolster where the driver enters the car and rubs it. He inserted a piece of leather there and put new foam down in the seat bottom to shore up the bolster there. $65 total. Sometimes, it may be easier to have the leather replaced. I will still have to dye the new leather as he didn't have the dovegray but that is fairly easy.

Perforated is correct for keeping the stock look, but many folks believe the non-perforated seats wear better.

Early C4 sports seats have adjustment buttons on the seats themselves. The "normal" power seats only have power controls in the console.

My Vette has "normal" power seats only have power controls in the console.

I have seen the other Design.
Does anyone know if any other parts venders will be there on that weekend?

Thanks

In the olden days I worked a summer for a saddle maker and I learened the quality of good leather. That was the worry about buying on line and not getting to smell and fondle the material. Nothing like the smell of new learher.

I guess the next time he is in California will be Dec. What type of show discounts does he have. What can he do for you at the show and how do you get on his list.

What is the quality of his products?

Give me some info and if the drive would be worth it. I have the 87 vett with saddle color seats what type of seat covers do I ask for. My foam is in great shape.

Only about a 3-4 hour drive. Will any of you be there?

Well just found out there is another member of the dumb ass club Me. When I opened the box I couldn't find the install instructions. Came back to the computer to ask you guys for a short cut. Walk back to the living room and there on the floor were the instruction.

Steve

Wow opened the box for the paint for the valve covers and was happy to see the directions were printed on the can.

As far as your other questions, there are several decent brands out there. I like Polk, amongst others, for a nice budget minded speaker.

A 2 way speaker means it has a separate tweeter for highs and mid-range speaker for well...midrange. The signals are split up to each with a little electronic circuit board with limiters. A 3 way speaker has a tweeter, mid-range, and woofer (though not too large) that generally produces a more precise and richer sound, but the cost reflects that. You should be fine with a decent 2 way.

Matthew

With the Matthew's help already on the blown speaker, is their maybe a short cut to installing this piece in my 87 Vette? Have learned their is no harm in asking questions from so many different people.

Was there a time when you pushed on the peddle and you felt it was stiffer and then worked ok?

More math time!

Your current rear tire is: 275/40/19

To derive overall nominal height:

1. 275 x 40% = 110mm
2. 110mm / 25.4mm (1 inch) = 4.3"
3. 4.3" + 4.3" + 19" = 27.6"

This works out to an overall nominal height of 27.6"

Now, for the stock 255/50/16:

1. 255 x 50% = 127.5mm
2. 127.5mm / 25.4mm (1 inch) = 5"
3. 5" + 5" + 16" = 26"

Well you already have a speedo error - 1.6" is rather significant. At 60mph, you are off by 4 mph slow! 60 really means you are doing 64.

So don't let the ratios worry you. I would stick with the .64 OD. If you want to correct the speedo error, there are other ways to do it. The .64 will help of you decide to go nuts with gearing down the road. "

Just for kicks we put stock tires on the 87 and drove it and the ABS light stayed off. When we went back to the tire set up Andy explaines above it would do as was described as above threds.
Question
Might sound dumb! When we install the new transmission and calibrate correctly the speedo error to the computer can that correct the tire rotations to the ABS. Or just the correct size tires combonation correct the light staying on? Does the ABS interact with the other systems?
Brakes work fine hate the light being on. Have about 40,000 left on tread.

When I first got my Vette I had simular problems . We thought it may have been heat. Installed a new starter simular problems in about 6 weeks. Got my money back on the new starter there was no core charge.
Installed a gear reduction starter from Summit racing and no problems for the last year and a half.

Good luck

The parts are available individually.
I'm not sure on whether a stock 91-96 bumper has the same mounting as the replicas buy you can buy the replicas.

If you don't have this catalog, order it, it's free.

Steve, the parts for repairing probably would not be any more expensive at the time of replacement, just expensive to replace perfectly good nose and bumper with new ones to get the later look. Your car is beautiful. Love the color too.

If it is stolen they will be looking for tag numbers, VIN numbers and color. Not the specific bumpers. However it is good to have photos to show what you have.

Cheers to a great looking Vette!

I have the book.
When I took reports and we entered them in NCIC we added aditional body description as most officers (not all) most officer don't stop and check the vin unless they suspect something else. The modification Tires ,rims, interior modification, type of paint & color, the upper and lower third brake light, things that make that clasic car stand out is PC for an officer to stop that vehicle nation wide.

17 years doing that BS. LOL

A few of the data put into the system for officer to check in the NCIC system.

NCIC ckecks
A. Stolen Vehicle File: 1. Stolen vehicles. 2. Vehicles wanted in

parts including certificates of origin or title.
B. Stolen License Plate File.
C. Stolen Boat File.
D. Stolen Gun File: 1. Stolen guns. 2. Recovered guns, when ownership
of which has not been established.
E. Stolen Article File.
F. Securities File: 1. Serially numbered stolen, embezzled or

generally are considered to be evidence of debt (e.g., bonds,

in the United States, except for commodities futures. Also, included
are warehouse receipts, travelers checks and money orders.

H. Foreign Fugitive File: Identification data regarding persons who

There are a lot of policemen out there that are car nuts that the little things give them a clue. If your vehicle is ever stolen give that extra information to the officer that makes your year vehicle stand out so they can recover it. If that officer has to go to court he can use your extra information to justify his PC to look further and inspect your vehicle. It's called fruits of the forbidten tree. If the officer dosen't correct justfication there is a chance the criminal could go free. The theives have to many rights. The court need the accurate information to apperend the theives. Lost a few by just going on 67 datson no plates. . Law changes all the time lol. Not enough information too vague. CA courts suck.

Thanks
Steve

Thanks for the help guys

Hey Steve, the changes to your bodywork are not C5.
What the OP did is put on late C4 front & rear pieces 91-96 and the gills (right behind the front tires) are 95-96.

It wasn't an inexpensive mod because along with buying the bumpers and fiberglass, you have to change out all the lights both front & rear.

Thanks. Now I know If I am in an accident what the replacement parts would be. I doubt most insurance company would take my word for it. Main reason I have pictures. Now is there a different name for the late C4 parts or I would just state C4.? These cars do get stolen (hope not mine). Have taken a few reports on them in the old days.

Thanks Steve

The last two owners did the modifications. I was told the changes were C5. I am not experianced on the body styles and mine doesn't look like your normal 87s I have looked at. Andy knows a lot more than I do and so do most of you. I am only conserned about buying body parts that will work with this body style.

Wish mine looked like this. Click on caption under picture of my car. Corvette Dragster LOL

you know, steve... if the pictures you posted recently are current, you do NOT have the C5 body kit.

What you DO have is the later C4 body kit - 1991+.

Which means that the bra cover for the front end you are trying to sell, should fit.

Questiong about this body. Do the earlier 84-88 vets have the third brake lights mounted as shown in the picture? I also have the third brake light mounted above the coup rear window. What year would I for example order LED tail lights (84-90) or (91-95)? Are you aware of any other examples where I need to order 91+ applications. Looking to the future.
Thanks
