Crown Vic's and Grand Marquis are great cars. Been driving Vics for years in my work before retiring. Bought an 06 Lincoln Town Car last year (basically same car) and could not be happier. Gets 25mpg on trips. It was between the Town Car and a newer vette. I love my 89 so it was the Lincoln.
You made a good choice in the Marquis!

I was looking at a Civic Si sedan of all things before I bought the big Mercury. My taste in cars is all over the place I like all sorts of stuff but for the money the Merc is a helluva deal. The magazine reviews are complete bullshit.

lets put it this way... the Crown Vic isn't selected for it's straight line performance.

They are 17 second cars... but they ride like a dream and will get honest mid- to upper 20s mpg on the highway.

Personally, I like them. They are nice rides and very durable.

17s ain't bad actually, all she needs is a higher stall, some gears, a cam change and a shot of nitrous lol I won't mess with it just curious what it is supposed to do. There are NO specs for it online I can find and with 40 miles and snow I have yet to floor the big bastage. I wonder if it will spin the tires lol First dry day I'm turning off the traction control and testing it for scientific purposes of course.

I've needed a new daily driver for quite some time now. I finally bought something. I bought a 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis. I know the demographic of who buys them is usually 50+ and I'm 33 but I LOVE THIS CAR !! I got X plan pricing on it with a little help from my brother so I got invoice plus $6500.00 in rebates ! I got it for $18K and again I love this car !!! The magazine reviews are blah but they hate the C4 too so shows ya what they know. It was $18K including tax !! If anyone else is considering one the rebate is $5500.00 without X plan and you can get one for invoice without it anyways you just can't get the extra $1000.00 in rebate cash from Ford. Anybody else have a newer Merc or Crown Vic ?
I wonder what it runs in the 1/4 stock ? I'm thinking some 3.55 rear gears
would be money well spent lol When the weather breaks I'll post a pic of our Red White and Blue car collection.

2008 Mercury Red
1993 Corvette White
2005 Jeep Blue

I'd still like to try it w/o dropping the entire assembly, but good points have been made for both schools of thought. If its too tight under the car, I'll drop it.
I am not sure what is meant by "dropping the entire assembly". The only thing I would do differently than Notorious described, would be to leave the 10, carrier to cover bolts alone, until after the two batwing to frame bracket bolts were removed and the diff with cover were lowered out of the car. Whatever works best for you.

RACE ON!!!

I don't quite get the entire assembly part of the question either. I wouldn't pull the batwing off either as posi additive stinks like hell and you'll make a mess. Great to see CFI on here !!!

I've had three C4s all automatics a 85 a 89 and the 93. I find the trans in my 93 to be much tighter. It has always shifted hard and has never given me an issue. All three of my C4s never had a problem with the trans and the 89 had 166K on it with a STOCK trans. They all shifted differently though which is odd to me.

Thanks for alerting us to the true.com dating service ads. I agree they are inappropriate for the site and have alerted the people at Internet Brands to contact google to try and block the ads.

It appears they being placed on the site in the google ad slot, where the advertising is sold and scheduled by google, rather than Internet Brands.

Regards,

Jim Willis

Whatever, I found a new place to hang out.

I've sent your request on to honor your wishes, sorry you feel this way.

Happy New Year as well.

Here's the response. I don't want to have anything to do with that place.

With the recent bannings and assorted nonsense pop ups I just sent a request to close my CF account. Here's a copy of the pm

I would like to close my account here on CF. or Delete my account and do not know how to do so. You are the only mod I found online tonight so I thought I would trouble you with it. The pop up ads for dating services in the TECH sections are too much for me.
If you could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. I understand you have nothing to do with the google ads so Happy New Year and Thanks !!

Yep, down at the bottom of the page. It's not exactly the same as CF, but it works. Over in Web comments/suggestions, someone asked to have it moved to t he top.

thanks I found it

I've got GS copies from O.E. on mine. I bought ZR1 copies from O.E. for the 85 I used to have. Great luck so far. On EBAY it's O.E. Wheel distributors. Good Luck !!

You can use what they call a suction gun to do this which is about $10.00 retail.

I too think a supporting member contribution could work. I also think if we get the site packed with the knowledge we poured into the other one sponsorship will come then Andy can sell out and get rich

Exactlyh lets make this site what it should be. Somebody should make a sticky about performance mods that WORK. Somebody should also explain the 160 t- stat in great detail as well as it always came up. We need to go fetch CFI EFI and give him a few projects splaining things that we could make permanent.

This is what S.K. hand tools call spline drive, they make sockets and wrenches that are like this. They will work on rounded off bolts quite well. The idea behind these is solid, the manufacturer of these particular ones is anybodys guess. I would GUESS these are imported from China. The S.K. version is U.S.A. made and good quality. Titan maker "imports" similar socket sets for less money and the quality is o.k. and if it's for a backyard guy they will work quite well. If you are interested let me know as I sell tools for a living. John

That is awesome, I keep trying to convince myself to quit screwing with my car and just drive it. You are my hero and f.w.i.w. my six year old made a Corvette collage out of old Corvette magazines and your car is in it on his bedroom wall. The orange wheels did it for him

i agree..I see most the posts here as dissapointments and some maybe slighltly resentful/hurt as they have put hundreds, some of them thousands of hours into creating a good tech site.

Im sure with everyone putting a little time in here this tech section can be built just as good.

Everyone that gets axed is gonna voice ther .02 but Im sure a new rhythym will develop and everyone here will settle in.

It's in and running, I need to finish the exhaust and a slew of other samll things but I did get it out on the road a couple of times.

Great, hope that bad boy was worth the investment in time and money. I expect a ride next time I visit my daughter in Garfield Hts.

I bought the drivetrain out of a wrecked car. So the $ wasn't as bad as it should have been. Ride shit you can drive :thumbright:
