I'm assuming these are the ones:

http://store.summitracing.com/partdet ... 02&N=700+115&autoview=sku

part number FMS-M-9593-A302

- am I correct?

How long will it take for Rich to get those cleaned up? It might be better to leave it alone and wait for the OEM to come back.

What? And lose my person from NCRS who actually drives his C4 credentials?

Realistically, I'd probably swap them in because 1) Rich's turnaround might be longer than the next time I actually have the car somewhere (for some obligation) and 2) because I'll probably take the car over to Rex Ruby's so I can have him watch over me if I do something stupid ...

... I do feel good that I actually had the Summit catalog out, so I was on the right track.

Thanks, Andy - are you talking about the intake manifold gaskets or the throttle body caskets or both or something else? Questions, questions, questions ...

I need some 'placeholder' fuel injectors for my stock L98 while I get the originals flowtested and cleaned at Cruzin Performance.

Which injectors would C4 Technical suggest and where would you suggest I get them from?

How hard is to remove and replace the fuel injectors on an L98? I'm thinking of getting mine flowtested and cleaned by Rich at Cruzin Performance ...

I went to Rich's site and I am sorely tempted ... might get some temporary replacements so I don't have to stop driving Lauren.

A little perspective: folks wouldn't buy a C4 without the Bose when it was new. Sure you can beat them now, but can you think of a new consumer electronic that can't blow away its 20 year old equivalent?

A good suggestion ... would you get them cleaned or just replace them?

So, it was the starter. Rex Ruby and I replaced it with a rebuilt Delco Remy last week and now Lauren starts with alacrity (in fact I have to be careful not to have it in start for too long).

I checked the numbers and the starter was original, so I can't complain. Thanks to everybody who put up with me overanalyzing the problem ...

... subject line says it al(most) - I'm not getting quite the mileage or response I would expect from my stock 1985/L98/A4/3.07, so I'm wondering if there is a traditional tune-up for an L98 or if I should look further.

Thanks for the heads-up, Tom. They certainly look good, but I'm holding out for repros I can actually drive on. I'll check the DOT codes when I get home ...

... obviously more than one person wants them - they're already bid up to $380.

oh, gee, John... this is taking all my willpower not to say "duh."

Ok, I said it... if it doesn't crank, then the starter is a great place to start!!

The ignition switch under the steering column is another great test spot. You see, the key switch actually pulls a rod that activates the switch. This is why I laugh so hard at TV shows whey they show someone hotwiring a car by reaching under the dash... yea, right... the wires are down on the column, just above your shin. Oh, you can hotwire down there, that's why GM came up with the VATS system.

So... if you want bastets old starter, lemme know and I will get it boxed up. I will mail it tomorrow (USPS pony express, cause it is heavy)...

Andy,

You should know by now that I'm never afraid to ask a stupid question!

I'll get the starter tested and (ugh) start looking around to see if they make repros or do rebuilds ...

Andy, I'm clueless here: can it be an issue with the starter if it doesn't even crank? Are there some connections that might be the issue?

The most annoying thing is that it's not consistent ...

Cleaning the battery connectors didn't fix the problem, but it now almost always starts on the second try. No hood opening or, as some have suggested, the time it takes to open the hood, is required.

It's almost like the electrical system has to wake up, but that can't be true, can it?

... that Lauren came into my life, having made a week-long trip on hauler from Salem, Oregon to southeastern Pennsylvania.

I'll never forget it - we arranged to meet right off a major highway and I was so excited that I completely unprepared. The car was very dirty (it was an open hauler) and I could barely see out the windshield. I didn't even know how to turn the lights on (but the truck driver did) and the alignment and tires were both just about gone.

Somehow I did drive the five or so miles home. I immediately began cleaning it up while my wife poured some celebratory glasses of champagne. Within a few hours I had the light blue metallic paint respectable enough to take a couple of pictures and post them to the appropriate locations.

March 5th, 2004 - a very good day!

I cleaned all the battery connectors today - they weren't horrible, but they weren't great either. It started right up afterwards ... we'll see wether the behavior gets consistently better.

NCRS manual itself is a JOKE. I can think of at least 6 things off the top of my head that were wrong with the NCRS Manual I bought at Corvettes at Carlisle. The problem was the original survey was done by a guy with an 86 in NJ. I remember writing him about a lot of the things that were wrong with it but got no response. I havent seen the newest version but I hope its a bit more accurate!

The first versions of the manual are always off - any self-respecting judge's C4 judging manual is covered with annotations by now. Part of the problem was that the folks writing the manual believed GM in that they had better control of their change management than they had for previous generations.

They didn't ...
