They also kitted out a C4 with a complete C5 dash as well.

They had one of those at the 50th Anniversary celebration in Nashville. One of the signs on the dash said "Don't Even Think Of Driving This Car Without Checking The Oil First".

I have a 1985 Z51. When I purchased the car a couple of years ago it still had the original Delco-Bilsteins at about 48k miles.

After a couple of years, I replaced them with the same type of shocks. The difference was astounding. The car didn't get much more comfortable (still rides like an old truck, as Central Coaster would say) but the handling improved substantially - I now feel that I'm getting a lot of handling to make up for my discomfort.

Andy is correct - folks on the restoration side of the C4 hobby don't trust the early C4 odometers at all: we use other data to judge mileage. I would trust the Carfax more, and I can't believe I'm saying that ...

... but which one do you want? I've got my eye on a perfect black '57 283/283 4-speed fuelie with white coves and a red interior.

If I couldn't get that car (maybe I don't have enough body parts to sell) I'd also go for a nice '62 in a metallic color.

I agree and I don't think it would be that hard. Like many C4 parts, it's just waiting on someone to do it well.

I'm still looking, but I've had no luck yet and I'm not too hopeful. I was aware that there was no part number - I'm afraid you may reside in the vast wasteland between where the parts are easily available from GM and where some third party decides there's money to be made in reproducing them,

I'll keep looking: I've got a couple more ideas. Are you near any of the really big Corvette shows, like Corvettes at Carlisle?

I'm working a four hour shift this morning, and than having lunch at a fairly nice restaurant in Philadelphia with my lovely wife. Afterwards, we're heading up north into the mountains to visit with one of my longest term and best Corvette friends (some of you on C4 Guru know him - he recently became a grandfather). We'll drink a little, eat a little, talk a little: that's all, nothing fancy.

Because that isn't how it works, the fuel system is in a loop, fuel circulates through this loop until its used.

The pump flows the same or very similar volume as long as its running, the regulator controls the pressure, and anything passing the regulator returns to the fuel tank.

Doh! So it was a stupid question ... I should have thought about my own experience measuring fuel pressures. I guess this means you could never have a reliable way of generating mileage by measuring fuel unless the measuring was done really close to the injectors.

This may be a dumb question, but why wouldn't the computer just monitor how much fuel was being pumped?

19 years later, a couple gets their 1986 back:

Cute story - has anyone on C4 Guru gone in search of a C4 they once owned?

First let me say it is not a trophy winner at all. Actually I have a 1989 Coupe L98 auto. with 90,000 miles. I got the car 10 years ago and enjoyed every day after. I also have have a 1968 conv. I have owned for 25 years. This one needs a fair amount of work but it all there and runs good. But the true love of any Corvette I have owned is the C4. I do try to keep my cars as original as possible. I have replaced exhaust with as near original equipment as I could find last year. Also just the usual IAC,TPS, head light motor rebuilds, flex plate, starter, etc. Not what you expected, hope I didn't mislead ya.

You didn't mislead me - Andy Bogus will vouch that I drive my 1985 (it went over 60k early in November). I meet a lot of folks who've tried to keep them reasonably original but aren't getting theirs judged ...
