Pavement is for getting to the race track. Dirt is for racing on.

A Vette dirt late model, there can't be many of those. I like watching good oval racing on any surface. But when I actually did it, dirt was my choice. Sliding sideways into the first corner in a pack of cars when the green drops is a rush that can't be described, only experienced.

I haven't done this on a regular basis since the mid 80s. But the couple of times that I've been fortunate to do so since, I was blessed to be able to show up and just drive the car. Both times I was told it was a top five car. And both times, I finished in the top five. Oval racing is more fun than should be legal with your clothes on. It's good stuff. And if I was ever of the mind to get real serious about racing again, it is what I would do. I'd love to have back the '73 Torino dirt car that I built and campaigned in the early to mid 80s. The 351 Cleveland engines I ran were extremely competitive. When I got the car hooked up, it ruled.

Dirt Late Model racing has gone kind of big time and it's really, really expensive. They a bast to watch. I haven't been actively involved for years, but I'm friends with several car owners and drivers. They're are a couple of local tracks and I travel to different select events in the midwest.

This is one of my favorite pics. This is Scott Bloomquist expressing his displeasure at being disqualified for not making the call in time for the feature at Kentucky Lakes speedway.
