Three people short at my office today just in my room, load all on me, but then I got done early and then was able to give someone a well overdue butt chewing, therefore I feel tons better now. Kicking back with my beer! Cheers! :thumbright:

Thanks for all the help. I have emailed Haier, and they are corresponding with me. They've asked for my address for a service schedule and I will give it to them on the condition we discuss money before anyone sets foot in here. From other postings I've seen, the payment responsibility falls to the consumer, but I will see what I can get even if I have to blink my eyelashes a lot (LOL). At any rate, I need a tv!!!!!!
I've been told by others as well that Panasonic is the way to go.

This set was on clearance for only $700 from the original $1599, plus being a plasma, it had the better quality. But dang for $400 to fix, crap I'm not getting anywhere.... I just want the best picture and biggest tv for the least amount of money - doesn't anyone?

Thank you all for the help, I've decided to call a repairman, he is looking into it for me on some of his forums he is a member of specifically for tv repairman. He asked that I give him a couple of days. And yes, the tv was put on a credit card, but no help there. I have spotted a Visio 50in I may get as a replacement and then fix this one anyway and give it to my mother. As, with the new 'digital
conversion' coming in '09 hers will have to have a special box in order to work. This will solve her problem and give her a larger television.
We will see what the repairman says. I do dread it tho....

This is a 42 in plasma EDTV by Haier, 17 months old, no warranty anymore, screen simply quit. POOF! Upon investigation, both Sears and Haier seem to dodge responsibility and this appears to be a very common problem with my model. Posts have been made about some board issue as well as some kind of 'update'? Anyone hear of this or know of a solution? Much appreciated. I can't afford another dang tv, vette is still in the shop and that comes first.

Thanks for the info. Also, alldata has an online subsription available also I've considered... http://www.alldatadiy.com/
I do at least have the little basic Haynes one, a leftover from when I had my 87.

I used to have an 87 myself for about 6 years and 4 days...

The Haynes is useless, even for simple stuff. And the reason i say that, is cause it has a fair amount of errors in it. Stick with the Genuine service manual, its alot better no matter how big or small the job is. Im sure you will know what to get, but if you get stuck or need a hand i can order it off my mate in Colorado and have him send it straight to you if you like.

That would of course all depend on how much one costs....

They have different prices for different cars, the number of cars, one year or more, etc. Not very much at all in my opinion....
www.alldatadiy.com

Acutally the little Haynes book has helped me being that I'm usually only dealing with basic stuff....

Believe me, no apology necessary. The only one confused around here is me. The thing is, there is no listing for that particular code in the 1996 factory service manual (which BTW, you should have around regardless if you're going to do the repairs or not). So I'm not sure what to tell you. There's a P1371 DI in the FSM, the section on which I'd be happy to scan and email you if you think it would help...

Thanks, I'd take any help I can get!!! BTW if you send me that I can send you what I have and you will see where I got my info sort of. And my regrets but I do not have a service manual....

OK, maybe I'm a dope but I guess I'm asking, how do you know that's the DTC code? Did you hook up an OBDII code reader to your 96 and that's what it said? Or is that what the guys in the shop told you the DTC was?

I really don't have anything to offer either like some of you with extra bedrooms and the like (don't think that would look good coming from a chick...) but I am a graphic artist at a newspaper here in Arkansas, I design advertising. Me neither. And the reason I asked where you got that DTC description is because I can't find any reference to it in the 1996 factory service manual...

We have had some female owners recently join us and they seemed to have quietly slipped into the crowd. Over at that other site you knew when a female was posting as all the leg humpers would come out of the woodwork. Let's keep our atmosphere going here so everyone feels welcome and not put out

Been here a little while, but I tend to keep quiet.....
I've encountered assinine responses in other places and as far as off color conversations, I have witnesses (upon request
:thumbright: ) that I can hold my own.
Being a female, I don't know the ins and outs of my car but I try to do the best that I can, learn everything possible, try to do minor repairs if possible, and at least gain more knowledge prior to taking it to a shop to keep from getting screwed in a way I really don't want to.... There are occasions that I may say something stupid or ask a dumb question, but please forgive as I am simply trying to learn and make friends.
Cheers! :thumbleft:

Ok, here is some further info:

P1371: Ignition Coil - Cylinder 1 - Early Activation Fault

P1376: Ignition Coil - Cylinder 6 - Early Activation Fault

Seems abit irrelevant, although it could be something to do with the crank angle sensor.

What does it say if you attempt code retrieval via the LCD display? Connecting pins 4 and 12 should put you in diagnostic display mode, there is the DTCs in big numbers where the speedo normally is, and the module listed in little numbers where the coolant/oil/volts/fuel ecconomy normally is.

I will need both the big sized and the small sized numbers.

I never got that far, with OBDII I wasn't aware there was another way to get a code out. I've taken it to the shop but not heard anything. I am about to go see about it, will get back to y'all.
Thanks!

I was just told by someone else that CPS... crank position sensor? could possibly be bad as well. i'd just like to have some idea what I'm in for when the shop finally does call. Being a single gal with a vette, I like to know a little before hand to keep myself out of trouble. Any help is much appreciated by you all, and thanks so much!

Car quit the other day, pulled this code, replaced ignition module, car was a little better but still not fixed. Have taken it to the shop but not heard anything as of today. Any idea what all this means?

I have a black '96 - MANY miles, just plain old thing. Got rid of a black and silver '87 to get it. I tell everyone I drive a beat up old 11-year old chevy with 215k miles. HAHA They think I have an old truck!

Hi! I'm not so much of a car guru but I have a '96 with an extremely similar problem. No codes for me either, but ended up having some naked wires on front right 0-2 sensor - along with needing a replacement ignition module - be careful here - you might end up with new complete assembly. As I'm told, there's been a bulletin and a part design change in relation to water damage issues with old part design. When I went to get replacement module - found this out - no one had a module that looked like mine - then I found out why. One parts place ended up giving me warranty anyway on my complete unit and was so kind to give replacement of idential unit as he still had 1. Also I've changed my fuel filter too. That did seem to help also. in addition, now I have a iight set P0100 - circuit on MAF, possible vacuum leak - but can't find any problem and sensor for that is good. Any of you guys have a suggestion for what that might be? Let me know how it all comes out, maybe I'll know what to look for in the future with mine!
