Im in for 2 sets for sure. Airpressure should definitly not be a problem. Even a supercharged car will be lucky to see 20 psi manifold. My superram is on the shelf. I can mock up fit but cant do a full install until Im doing another build. jp

Thanks for researching this. That really stinks. Please keep us in the loop on what you find out on the reproducing costs.

Not quite, The seat bottom is different. The 89-90 had lumbar controls in right seat bottom and electric functions in left seat bottom. The 91-93 moved the lumbar controls to the left seat bottom and moved the electric controls off the seat. So there is no controls in the right seat bottom on the 91-93.

You can also get the Y from allens. I believe they are the supplier for MidA.

Something else to watch out for. I had this happen to me when I picked up my vette many moons ago. The vette shop I purchased my vette from in florida did a complememtary oil change before they shipped it to me in tx. Probally used a lowball shop. When I received the car it had the same problem as yours hot. I was thinking maybe a lower end tear down or oil pump was in my future on a 29000mile engine even though it was ok on initial inspection but did not know what weight oil was in the engine initially :'( . It turns out the no name generic fram type quality pf25 shorty oil filter was causing a large oil volume restriction without it bypassing. Problem was solved when I installed a good quality oil filter. Its oil pressure is Still good 12 years later. Yours may not be this easy of a fix. I was fortunate So just putting it out their as you never know. Ps If your l98 still has the silver body oil pressure sending unit they are very flaky. I believe there was a service bulliten on replacing them with the revised black body sender. I will have to dig in my sb book later as this is from memory.

Give this a try your 91 vette is equiped with a Bosch abs2S used in 90-91 on the vettes. You enable flash code diagnostics mode of the abs module by jumping pin H of the diagnostic link connector to pin A and then keying-up. The Service ABS light will come on for around 4-sec and start blinking two digit DTCs. Each digit is signified by half-second-apart flashes. One second separates the digits. Codes are flashed three times with a 3-sec. pause between. Each sequence is bracketed by code 12, signifying the sequence's start and finish. A hard fail ie light right after key on normally Points to a bad relay. I dont have my Bosch abs 2s book anymore but I believe its similar to the abs2 functionally as far as relays go. It should have 2 relays on the Ebcm (one for pump one for solenoids) and one on the harness forward next to the abs module that supplies power to the module. That one is usually the culpret for solid abs fault light right after key on and no codes stored. Usually the solenoid or pump relay being bad set a solid abs fault light after the 7mph selftest that tests functionality of the pump and solenoids. Check out this article online for a few added tidbits.

That is some serious junk. 2 years! Who is a maker of these junk diaphrams? I hope they all dont come from the same source nowadays.

Just crazy! Im glad your car survived! Hopefully the repairs will not be too extensive. Some guys I have read have pulled the inner wheel well liner to get to the latch as a last resort. I would make sure also, before you run it again, that the fuel that was being pushed through that failed diaphram into the pressure regulator vacuum line with key on engine not running. That fuel didnt make its way into the oil sump. I have read of engines worst case scenarios being hydrolocked by fuel from a pressure regulator diagphram failure. Maybe drain a quart and check if its cut with fuel. This diagphram is definitly an item we all should watch like a hawk especially with our great choice of alcohol enriched gas and the parts age nowadays.

Not saying you shouldnt put a tko500 in it. What happened with the 4plus3. Was the planetary carrier way expensive and bearings unavailable. John

It sounds like yours has the problem the one I rebuilt had. Planet carrier bearing damaged. Mine left tiny needle bearing in the pan. Price it out just in case before you tear it down to make sure you can even get the parts nowadays. Im thinking the exchange is sounding better by the second.

I have bought hard and soft parts for the 4+3 from sk speed. No problems though hard parts are expensive. I had to buy a planet carrier as mine had a bad bearing. No bearings were available at that time for that component anywhere. Some items are not available new anymore. Give them a call. They pretty much as far as I know, the only game in town with parts for that overdrive unit.

Just as a added note. Bosch abs2 has no off board troubleshooting through the adl on the 86-89 cars. Faults can not be downloaded from the abs computer on these abs2 cars. The j35890 and pin out box are the only tools available to troubleshoot this system. Off board fault troubleshooting functionality came out with the abs2S first available on the 90 cars. Which is accessed with the tech1 and other scanners with abs functionality. If you can find one, Pick up the Gm product service training book #15005.01-1 Corvette antilock brakes abs. It includes the kent moore j35890 instructions and alot of other nice info to have to help troubleshoot this system. This book is pictured below.
